A psychopath known only as the Joker unleashes chaos onto Gotham...Can Batman hold on to his principles or give in to the Joker's madness ?

After the big success of Batman Begins, the sequel was already planned. But could Nolan top the gritty reboot? Yes,he did..kind of.....

TDK continues the story of Batman, where it left off in Begins..It takes place after approx. 6-12 months after the events of Begins..
Just like its predecessor its a crime-thriller with a mix of psychology..But its more dark and sinister in comparison..
The dialogues are heavy and quick to the point,no time is wasted and each scene is followed up by an equally important scene...The editing is sharp and due to all this the viewers wont notice that almost 2.30 hrs have gone past...

Just like Batman Begins,TDK's follows a unique theme...this one's is, Chaos. The main villain, Joker, spreads chaos among the lives of the people in order to prove a point...but will Batman succumb to this chaos? This is what the movie is about....
Another main topic followed in this movie is the "right/wrong judgement".
TDK is also much of a political movie at heart too..The different ideals and viewpoints of the characters make TDK a very unique movie...And considering it as a "super-hero" movie is at times unbelievable..

The music by Zimmer and Howard tops their earlier collaboration in Begins..This time its the music that takes center stage, and almost every scene is electrified by the score attached to them.Truly amazing work.

The Action Scenes were much improved and the result was jaw dropping..The chase sequences and the fights were brilliantly choreographed..An important point to be noted is that Nolan used very little CGI as possible. Thus making the scenes more real and gritty.

The Nolan's trademarks present in TDK were ,the flawed hero and the intelligent yet sinister villains.

Now to the Acting Department.....One word...Solid.
The cast is just amazing and the way each one of them have carried their respective roles were just superb.

But of-course,no TDK review can go on without mentioning Heath Ledger. He portrayed the Joker with so much intensity that it really gets to you..The Joker of TDK is hands down one of the Best Villains of all Time...Earlier Nolan uncovered the origins of Bruce Wayne, but in TDK he chooses to not reveal the true origins of the Joker, thus increasing the character's sinister role.Heath completely changed himself to play the Joker. Its quite unbelievable to even imagine Heath as Joker since he usually played very calm and romantic roles. But his transformation made him a universal star...

Something that almost every review forgot to mention is the rest of the cast.
Christian Bale once again gives an all out performance as the tormented Bruce Wayne..He spends most of the time under his mask, but his eyes communicate ever more powerfully under the mask.
Gary Oldman (Gordon), and Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent) give very powerful performances.

The only negative point i had with the movie ,a very minor point actually,is that a lot of the actions of the characters depended completely upon assumptions they make..Lot is given up to chance....

But all in all TDK is a masterpiece..

6 months before the release of TDK,tragedy struck with the death of Heath. It was already predicted that Heath's performance would be his greatest role, but unfortunately he couldn't see it himself.

Upon release the movie blasted records and became The Greatest Superhero Movie Ever Made.Mass critical acclaim and Heath's performance pushed the movie to more than 1 billion dollar collection worldwide.

Nolan was praised for his work universally and he cemented his position as one of the greatest directors in the industry.

But ,once again, the Oscars snubbed Nolan...TDK wasn't nominated for the Best Picture nor for Best Director...Even the soundtrack wasn't nominated..Gary Oldman and Aaron E were ignored too..
Following immense criticism for this ,the Academy increased the no. of movies for Best Movie from 5 to 10 the next year itself.
