Anger Management Breaks Records

Charlie Sheen's Anger Management made a "winning" debut. The 2 opening episodes of Charlie Sheen's new TV show broke records and currently has the best ratings for a scripted comedy in cable TV history.
Episode #1 initially broke records with 5.47 million viewers, but Episode #2 bested it with 5.74million.

Critics havnt been too appreciative of the show ,while the audience feels the show has the potential to get better.

Ill be reviewing the show as new episodes drop by.Here are the reviews for Episode 1 & 2.

Episode #2

Cars (2006)

[cheesy and disappointing]

Cars (2006)
IMDB- 7.3
Rotten Tomatoes- 74
RJG Rating- 35

A race car is forced to repair a road in the remote town of Radiator Springs, just days before the final of the Piston Cup.

Starring- Owen Wilson, Paul Newman,Bonnie Hunt
Director- John Lasseter

Cars was Pixar's 7th movie and directed by John Lasseter. This was John's 4th directorial venture ,the previous one being Toy Story 2.

Animation from Pixar once again holds up to its top notch standard.Cars takes place in a fictional universe where everything are vehicles (even bugs are shown as tiny cars with wings). Even though its absurd ,Pixar manages to pull it off.

But animation is the only worthwhile factor about this movie, the rest disappoints.Considering Pixar has made such classics such as the Toy Story series,Monsters,Nemo ,Incredibles ,its hard not to criticize Pixar for making a dull movie like Cars.

Story has nothing new to offer. Its a cliche ride all the way to the end.Other than a particular scene at the end (Lightning McQueen helping out a contestant), the rest of the movie is cheesy and at times unbearable.

Every Pixar movie has a host of excellent characters.Unfortunately Cars has close to none.Lightning ,the main lead ,has no likable factors.Mater ,is one of the most irritating characters ive ever seen.

John Lasseter disappoints with his work.Cars is made exclusively catered for the kids and wont interest older viewers.

On release Cars opened at #1 ,but it failed to get universal praise.Cars did succeed in making huge merchandise sales ,close to a billion dollars worth.

Overall,Cars is cheesy and is unlike the rest of the Pixar movies, give it a miss.

Animation- 4.5/5
Story- 2/5
Direction- 2/5
Action- 3.5/5

Anger Management [1x02]

Anger Management [1x02] Charlie and the Slumpbuster
TV com Rating- 7.0
RJG Rating- 6.5

Charlie is visited by a woman he dated and dumped years back.

AM settles in a nice groove and the show passes by smoothly. But the laughter is scattered and the show doesnt hold the audiences' attention for too long. But the shows was an improvement over the last one.

Anger Management [1x01]

Anger Management [1x01] Charlie Goes Back to Therapy
TV com Rating-8.0
RJG Rating- 5.5

Charlie Goodson ,an anger management therapist, considers going back to some therapy after temporarily losing his anger.

Anger Management is Charlie Sheen's highly anticipated return to the TV screen after leaving Two & A Half Men last year.

The first episode of AM was not bad,it had the comedy and charisma of Charlie Sheen but it lacked a story.Maybe it was because it was busy introducing the characters, which it did a nice job of.But yet theres a lot of ground to cover up if AM wants to reach the levels of 2 and a half men

Goon (2012)

[a bloody movie]

Goon (2012)
IMDB- 7.0
Rotten Tomatoes- 83
RJG Rating- 90

A bouncer gets to join an ice hockey team as an enforcer.

Starring- Seann William,Jay Baruchel,Alison Pill,Liev Schreiber
Director- Michael Dowse

Goon is based on the real life story of Doug Smith who also co-wrote the book on which the movie is adapted from.

Seann William Scott (more popularly known as Stifler from the American Pie series) plays the lead role.He gives a decent performance and is a likeable character.Jay Baruchel has a short but funny role and he shines in it.Liev Schreiber & Alison Pill too give a good performance.

Story is short and sweet. It paints a full picture about the lead character and manages to keep the audience engaged.

Direction is also good.Goon cant be fully pushed off into the comic genre. It has its moments of drama and romance too and doesnt go slapstick on either. As for the sport scenes ,all are excellent. The climax is thrilling, since the final confrontation had been anticipated from the beginning itself. And the fight doesnt disappoint. The movie is bloody from start to finish,so be prepared for them.As a sports movie it has some good scenes on team spirit and so on.

Overall,Goon is a great movie if you are into sports and bloody fights.

The Incredibles (2004)

[best animated superhero movie]

The Incredibles (2004)
IMDB- 8.0
Rottenttomatoes- 97
RJG Rating- 100

Forced into early retirement, superhero Mr.Incredible struggles to cope with normal life.

Starring- Craig T. Nelson,Holly Hunter,Sarah Vowell,Spencer Fox
Director- Brad Bird

Incredibles is Pixar's 5th movie and was a first for Pixar in many areas.First, director Brad Bird was a newcomer to the Pixar group.Second, this was Pixar's first PG rated movie.Third, not only was this their longest movie yet,it was their first that centered around humans.
Fortunately none of the above hindered Pixar and they churned out yet another gem.

Animation turned out to be fantastic.Pixar had problems rendering humans in the past, but they improved immensely with each movie since then.Incredibles had smooth animation and the characters had the distinct Pixar look. The movie is colorful and exudes fun in every frame.

Pixar gets back to spoofing classic scenes from movies,in this case, superhero movies. Its great to see the Pixar take on such scenes, but its all done in good taste and pretty fun too.But what makes Pixar movies standout is their penchance for character development and some truly heart touching scenes and you can see both in The Incredibles.Every single character is lovable as well as distinct. The story is fast paced and never has any dull phases. As with Finding Nemo,Incredibles deals with more mature content, which makes it an enjoyable watch for all ages.

Brad Bird, a new addition to the Pixar family does a fantastic job and blends right in with the rest of the crew.Being an action oriented director (he would later go on to direct Mission Impossible 4),Incredibles has some spectacular action scenes.

With The Incredibles,Pixar opened in first place at the box office, for the 5th time in a row.It opened to mass critical acclaim and was the second highest grossing movie for Pixar till 2009.

Overall, its not only one of the best in animation ,but also one of the best superhero movies.

Amazing Spiderman Preview

Sometimes the marketing for certain movies goes completely overboard. For example, today Sony released a 25 Minute preview of the Amazing Spiderman. Yes,25minutes. And this wasnt a particular part of the movie, but it was a montage/trailer of the whole movie.People who did watch it verified that it pretty much shows the whole plot of the movie within those 25min.
Sony realizing their mistake (hopefully) ,took down the video. So if you do come across any more trailers or the said preview, for The Amazing Spiderman ,please do give it a miss.

Brave tops the Box Office

Pixar's made its 13th first place opening with Brave this week ,earning a solid $66million.While Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter opened at 3rd place with just $16million.

With Brave ,Pixar made a strong comeback after 2011's bigtime disappointment,Cars2.Even though Brave didnt garner overall positive reviews,it did manage to rack up 74% at RottenTomatoes.

Madagascar 3 landed into 2nd spot with $20million.Overall the movie has made $157 million domestically and $365million worldwide.Considering its still going strong,Madagascar3 wont be slowing down for another week or two.

Abraham Lincoln:VH ,was expected to bomb at the box office collection especially since its negative reviews (39%) and because of the general lack of interest in the public, but fortunately $16 million was a decent opening for a movie expected to bomb.

Prometheus moved down to 4th place with $10million ,to take its domestic collection past the $100million mark. The movie has so far made $260 million worldwide.

Finding Nemo (2003)

[beautiful tale of a father and son]

Finding Nemo (2003)
IMDB- 8.1 (Top 250: #171)
RottenTomatoes- 98
RJG Ratings- 95

Marlin a clown fish sets on a journey to find his lost son Nemo.

Starring- Albert Brooks,Ellen DeGeneres,Alexander Gould
Directed- Andrew Stanton

Finding Nemo is Pixar's 5th movie and is directed by Andrew Stanton.Just like it did for A Bug's Life ,Pixar creates a stunning life centered around nature, this time being sea-life.

Animation is top notch and is stunning throughout the duration of the movie. The attention paid to detail and animation of the various sea creatures is outstanding.

Unlike previous movies,Finding Nemo's basic story is more dramatic in nature.A father losing his only son and his journey through a lot of perils was very mature of Pixar to tackle.Yet FN finds humour in the story and delivers a fun adventure.

Pixars ability to create a bond between characters and the viewers is clearly seen in FN.

Finding Nemo not only captivates the kids but also will keep the adults entertained with its sweet story.

Pixar once again topped at the Box office ,and got excellent reviews. It was the 2nd highest grossing movie of the year ,behind LOTR:Return Of the King.Pixar won its first Academy Award for Best Animated Movie for Finding Nemo. This was just the first of many Oscars Pixar would bag.

Monsters,Inc. (2001)

[Highly creative and heart warming]

Monsters,Inc. (2001)
IMDB- 8.0 (Top 250: #240)
Rotten Tomatoes- 95
RJG Rating- 100
Mike & Sully have their lives turned upside down when someone crosses over to their world.

Starring- John Goodman ,Billy Crystal
Director- Pete Docter ,Lee Unkrich

Monsters Inc to me is Pixar's entry into their most glorious era.Their animation has reached perfection and where they tackle more diverse stories. Its their 4th movie , and the first to be not directed by Pixar head, John Lasseter.

MI's animation is just brilliant. The various characters are colorful and the amount of details on them are just superb.Pixar creates another detailed world in MI and its called Monstropolis. The entire concept behind its working and how it affects the lives of the characters are very much thought into.

The story explores the concept about monsters that hide in childrens closet.Pixar weaved a beautiful yet fun story out of this. The movie is one for all ages.Like most Pixar movies,MI has well developed characters.Every single monster catches our eyes, they are just too fun and lovable to be missed out.

Another strong point for MI is its big heart.Compared to the first 3 Pixar movies,MI is more emotionally charged. The relationship formed between Boo & Sulley and the friendship between Mike & Sulley will surely touch your hearts. The comedy is non-stop and clean.

Pete Docter has managed to create a classic movie. Its high on imagination as well as genuine story telling. Its a colorful adventure for all ages.A must watch.

On release,MI opened in top spot and gained mass critical acclaim.

Prometheus (2012)

[a thought provoking as well as a visual delight]

Prometheus (2012)
IMDB- 7.7
Rotten Tomatoes- 74
RJG Rating- 90
2 scientists lead a team of explorers into space to find human origins.

Starring- Noomi Rapace,Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba,Charlize
Director- Ridley Scott

Prometheus is Ridley Scott's foray into sci fi after almost 30 years.Scott's movies such as Alien & Blade Runner are legendary movies in sci-fi history.Prometheus is a prequel to the Alien series, but its much of a stand alone movie. You dont have to watch any of the Alien movies to understand Prometheus. But for people who have watched them, watching the movie will be more fun and enlightening.

The cast is a very strong group of actors. Its led by Noomi Rapace (from Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) ,Michael Fassbender (Magneto from First Class) ,Idris Elba ,Logan Marshall & Charlize Theron.Everyone gives a solid performance with the exception of Charlize.Fassbender & Noomi are the power horses. This is easily one of Fassbender's best roles.Charlize gives a one dimensional performance, she never breaks out of the rut.But fortunately this doesnt derail our attention.

The story is another strong point of the movie. Its concept and presentation is just outstanding. Its a radical idea and many may not buy into it,but its sci fi at its best.

Ridley Scott's Prometheus is a wonderful tale and its an interesting watch.Every scene has its importance and if you miss or let slip a dialogue,it can lead to some confusion later on.The movie deserves your full attention at all times.

Prometheus has some truly magnificent visuals. The movie takes place entirely in space ,and the visual department has given an outstanding job creating the environment. The other visual creations are also great.Hats off for creating "The Engineer".

The movie isnt a fast paced action flick, nor is it a complete horror movie. Its more of a philosophical movie with a mixture of great action & gruesome horror.
Many a times the movie slumps a bit after an exciting scene ,and this sort of dulls the viewer a bit.But if you are truly interested in its concept, this wont be much of a problem.
Many have issues with the questions raised by Prometheus ,but a bit of common sense and imagination is enough to bridge any gaps.

Prometheus doesnt depend on the stable pillar of the Alien Series, but manages to not only stand apart, but has enough potential to spawn its own series. Its a must watch for sci fi lovers, and is a refreshing tale of space exploration. But if you expect non-stop action and a complete horror package ,this is not your type.

Transformers 4 Teaser Poster

Even though the Transformers series have been heavily criticized ,it did make a tonne of cash at the box office (the 3rd part made a solid $1billion plus).
So Micheal Bay is back to reboot the series ,and present to us a much more darker & grittier version. Heres the first Teaser Poster for the reboot.
The reboot is said to focus more on the robots and less on the humans. Its set to release on June 27 2014.

Toy Story 2 (1999)

[One of the best Sequels ever]

Toy Story 2 (1999)
IMDB- 8.0
RottenTomatoes- 100
RJG Rating- 100

Woody is kidnapped by a toy collector.

Starring- Tom Hanks ,Tim Allen ,Joan Cusack
Direction- John Lasseter ,Lee Unkrich and Ash Brannon

Toy Story 2 continues the tale of Andy's toys and is Pixar's 3rd movie.John Lasseter returns to direct as well as the entire star cast of the first part.

Animation is much improved than last time. This time the story takes place in a much larger environment, and the background is beautiful.

Toy Story2 has a much larger concept for the story and brought on board more fully fledged characters.Still ,Pixar gives #1 priority to the character development of every toy we see.The friendship between Woody & Buzz are one of the main highlights of the movie.

The fun is doubled and the comedy is spot on.Just like the first part we have some iconic scenes from major hollywood classics spoofed toy story style.

Another Pixar trademark is that its story and animation will touch your hearts. And Toy Story 2 has plenty of such scenes, the best one being Jessie's flashback.

Direction by Lasseter is flawless. He once again is able to create a well knit movie that never loses focus for even one frame. From start to finish its a complete adventure.

Pixar's devotion to bringing the finest movies can be seen in the movie's production.Disney as usual wanted a sequel for the hit Toy Story ,but just as a direct to video version. But due to the strong opposition from the Pixar team this was thankfully averted.Yet more problems faced the team.During production, Lasseter was unhappy on how the movie was turning out,and decided to redo the whole movie. But Disney was against this and wanted the movie at its proposed date.At extreme pressure the team worked non stop. Thus Toy Story 2 was made in 9 months.

On release ,the Pixar magic worked wonders. It was the second highest-grossing animated film of all-time , behind Disney's The Lion King (as on 1999).

Animation- 4.5/5

Wrath Of the Titans (2012)

[worse than its predecessor]

Wrath Of the Titans (2012)
IMDB- 6.0
Rotten Tomatoes-25
RJG Rating- 25

10 years since he defeated the mighty Kraken,Perseus is called upon again to stop a new evil from rising.

Starring- Sam Worthington,Liam Neeson,Rosamund Pike
Director- Jonathan Liebesman

Wrath Of the Titans is the sequel of 2010's Clash Of the Titans. It shouldnt be mistaken for the actual stories of the Greek Gods ,since Wrath pretty much makes its own idiotic story.

Sam Worthington (Perseus),Liam Neeson (Zeus) & Ralph F(Hades) reprise their roles.Just like Clash ,acting isnt its strong forte. Its actually more worse than Clash.Sam goes into over acting mode many times,Liam & Ralph are ok,but are severely underutilized.Rosamund does an ok job,but she seems out of place in such a movie.

Story is as dull and stale as Clash. It never has any excitement nor any kind of character development.Another irritating thing is that the events of Clash arent properly mentioned.Other than Perseus defeating the Kraken, nothing else is said. And the whole concept of Gods dying is just mind numbing.

Direction is poor.Jonathan, previously directed Battle LA,and the shaky camera technique seemed apt ,but for Wrath its just a bad idea.Another jarring experience are the dialogues. Its ok to have a character answer the viewers doubts here and there ,but Wrath has poor delivery and has characters explain stuff every now and then. This breaks the feeling of actually watching a movie.

For an action movie,Wrath boasts of some good scenes. There are primarily 4 main bosses(or titans/monsters).Out of them only the Chimera(the first fight) has the proper fight sequence. The other 3,especially the final Kronos, are finished off in a hurry. The last fight with Kronos is just disappointing, since by that time, you start to wonder how stupid the story has turned into. With the slow motion technique being used excessively it tends to get very boring.

Overall,if you just want to see stuff being blown up, Wrath is a timepass watch. But for the sensible group, give this movie a miss.

Story- 1.5/5
Direction- 1.5/5

Madagascar3 stays strong

Madagascar 3 and Prometheus defended the first and second position at the Box Office ,against Tom Cruise's Rock of Ages and Adam Sandler's Thats My Boy.Both Rock of Ages (15million) & Thats My Boy (13million) opened to 3rd and 4th position and considering its poor openings both are expected to bomb.
Meanwhile, even though Madagascar 3 is doing quite well worldwide (277 million) ,Prometheus is slowly losing momentum (217million),dropping 60% in its 2nd week.
