Skyfall back to #1

1-There was no stopping Skyfall this week ,as it returned to #1 in its 5th week.It made $10.7million to push its domestic collection to $261million.But Skyfall did almost 3times better overseas collecting $656million.This puts its worldwide tally to $918million.Although the gap to the $1billion club is attainable ,the fact that Hobbit arrives this week will make it a hard task.

2-Rise of the Guardians, stood strong and made $10.4million in its 3rd week. The animated movie has so far made $61million domestically and has a worldwide total of $152million.ROG is expected to linger around for a longer time since its a Christmas movie ,but it has been a disappointment to the studio.

3-Twilight Breaking Dawn 2 ,finally stepped down from the top spot after 3 weeks. As expected ,the movie has been steeply falling and managed to make just $9.1million.It has made $751million worldwide and wont make more than 850 in its total run.Breaking Dawn 2 also has become the highest grossing movie in the Twilight series.

4-Lincoln gave another strong weekend ,making $8.9million.The movie has grossed $97million solely from the domestic market. And once it gets Oscar nominations ,it will be a sure fire in the international markets.

5-Life of Pi rounds up the Top 5 ,for the 3rd week in a row.The visual delight has made $8.3million bringing its domestic total to $60million.

The new movie of the week Playing for Keeps bombed at the box office making just $5.7million.The movie has been critically panned and has a horrible rating of just 2%.This is Gerard Butler's 2nd flop in 2months.His last 4 movies have tanked since 2011.

This week ,Hollywood ends its slow weeks and starts the festive season.Hobbit will be the only new movie on release and is expected to make a grand debut of $120+million.After the epic trilogy of LOTR almost a decade ago ,Peter Jackson is back to Middle Earth with The Hobbit.Although Jackson has tried a brand new style of shooting with the 48fps ,this approach has been criticized and my recommendation is to NOT watch it in 48fps.Its better to WATCH it in NORMAL PRINT 3D ,since the 48fps has a lot to be worked upon as of now

Twilight ,Skyfall & Lincoln crush new releases

1-Twilight Breaking Dawn part 2 ,had another steep decline ,but still managed to edge Skyfall to retain the #1 spot for the 3rd week in a row.The finale collected $17.4million to bring its domestic total to $254million.The movie has made $702million worldwide and is expected to become the highest grossing Twilight movie by next week (Breaking Dawn Part 1- $712million)

2-Skyfall had another great week collecting $17million.Skyfall is now the top grossing James Bond of all time in both domestic as well as worldwide.Domestically the movie has made $246million and is still going very strong.Worldwide the movie stands at $869million and might break into the Billion Dollar Club.

3-Lincoln is doing very well for a biopic. The Steven Speilberg movie made $13.5million in its 3rd week. The biopic has grossed $83million domestically.

4-Rise of The guardians had another disappointing week and managed to collect just $13.5million.The movie has made $105million worldwide.

5-Life Of Pi made $12million to bring its domestic total to $48.3million.Even though the movie is doing slow business in USA ,its expectation lies in the overseas market.Life of Pi has already earned $60million overseas and is still going strong.

Where are the new releases?Brad Pitt's Killing Them Softly flopped ,making just $7million debuted at #7.The movie is about an assassin hired to kill 3robbers.Critics have been divided on the movie. While majority praise the cast ,many were irritated with the loud political tones of the movie. Its rated at 78%.

The Collection ,made just $3.4million and debuted at #10.its rated at 44%.The horror movie which is about a sadistic killer is the sequel to the 2009 movie ,The Collector.Critics have said the movie will be more enjoyable for those who liked the first part.

This week theres no interesting movies for release since all movies are staying clear of The Hobbit ,which is scheduled for the 14th.
The only new release is Playing for Keeps ,which is poorly marketed although it features some A-list stars.Gerard Butler ,Catherine Zeta,Uma Thurman,Jessica Biel star in this romantic movie which centers around football.

So we can expect a similar list next week !

Twilight & Skyfall brush off new releases

1-Twilight 5 ,held on to its top place with $43million.The Twilight finale has become a huge hit and has already raked in $577million worldwide.Said to be the best movie of the Twilight series ,Breaking Dawn part 2 is catching up with its predecessors in the box office.

2-Skyfall ,stood strong in 2nd place with $36million.Skyfall has already surpassed a
ll the other 22 James Bond movies and is still going strong at the box office. The movie has made $221million domestically (2nd place is Quantum at $168million) .Worldwide it has made $790million (2nd place is Casino at $599million).As you can see ,Skyfall is miles ahead of its predecessors.

3-Suprisingly Lincoln not only overcame 3 new releases ,it also made more money than its first week.Lincoln made a strong $25million.The movie has already made $62million just from its domestic release ,and easily on course for $100million.

4-Rise of the Guardians ,the new animated movie from Dreamworks made $24million.ROG was expected to do a much bigger business but with its weak opening it looks like a big disappointment. The movie has got good reviews and is rated at 75%.Made at a budget of $145million ,ROG will find it hard to recover its budget especially with the neck to neck competition in the coming weeks.

5-Life of Pi didnt have much expectation in the box office ,but it yet remarkably well making $22million.The movie has got excellent reviews with many praising its breath taking visual effects and heart touching story. It is rated at 86% and is a guaranteed favourite among the Oscars voters..

The 3rd new release ,Red Dawn made it to #7 with $14million.Facing poor reviews and a weak debut ,Red Dawn is heading towards a flop. Its currently rated at 11%.

The next 2 weeks wont have many great movies due to the fact The Hobbit will be releasing soon. This week we have a crime thriller and a horror movie. My pick will be neither. Both are dull. Will rather see Rise of the Guardians.

The Collection: Sequel to the Collector (2009) ,the Collection brings back the notorious villain of the first movie. The movie is currently rate at 100% ,which is quite surprising since these type movies usually get rated less than 30%.The first part wasnt so great (30%) , but the concept was good.

Killing them Softly:Brad Pitt stars in this crime thriller about thieves ,robbing a casino game. The Mob sends Brad Pitt to sort things through.Im not a fan of Brad Pitt ,so i will be giving this one the skip.Initial reviews are highly positive ,and its currently rated at 92%

Twilight finale makes a fantastic opening.

1-With the final chapter of Twilight ,Breaking Dawn Episode 2, made a opening weekend debut of $141.3million.This is the 8th biggest opening of all time. The final movie hasnt been getting great reviews but its said to be the best of the Twilight series. The movie has a rotten rating of 49%.The movie has already made $199million overseas, making its first
week worldwide total $340million.

2-Skyfall fell ,as expected, to #2 but made a strong collection of $41.5million.Skyfall has made $669.2million worldwide and is now the top grossing James Bond movie of all time.

3-Lincoln made a small but great start at the box office with $21million.Considering it faced direct competition with action thrillers like Skyfall & Twilight 5 ,this is a great collection from the Abraham Lincoln biopic. The movie has been garnering excellent reviews with many praising Daniel Day Lewis brilliant portrayal. The movie is rated at 90%.

4-Wreck It Ralph made $18million to bring its 3 week domestic collection to $121.4million.The animated movie will be facing competition from the new animated movie Rise of the guardians ,this week ,but with strong reviews ,Ralph just might hold strong for a couple more weeks.

5-Flight came at #5 with just $8.6million.The movie has made $61million from its $31million budget from just the domestic collections.

From India, the Shahrukh-Yash Chopra romantic movie,Jab Tak Hai Jaan, made $1.2million and came at #10 at the US box office.

With strong debuts by Twilight & Lincoln and the consistent collections from Skyfall ,this week is the 6th highest grossing week of all time. (the highest is Dec-25-09,with Avatar #1)

This week we have a fresh batch of multiple releases. But the RJG pick of the week is:-
Life of Pi
Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger,Hulk,Brokeback Mountain) directs this movie which is based on a book of the same name. The movie is about the connection between a tiger and a young man who are the only survivors of a shipwreck and are now abandoned at sea.The movie opened to fantastic reviews earlier in the film festivals. The cinematography and direction has been highly praised. The movie has an initial review of 95%

The other movies releasing this week are:-
Red Dawn -The cast is a bunch of young stars led by Chris Hemsworth (Thor) ,Josh Hutcherson ,Isabel Lucas,Adrianne P.The movie is about an American city coming under attack by a foreign country. As the residents are imprisoned ,a group of youngsters fight back. The movie has not been getting good reviews and is currently rated at 27%.Red Dawn looks like it will open with the highest total among the new releases.

Rise of the Guardians- This animated movie is a Christmas oriented movie and is about a clash between the Guardians & an evil spirit.Currently rated at 71% the movie will make a nice opening.

Skyfall conquers the US Box office in style.

1-As expected ,Skyfall not only topped the weekend but also scored the highest debut for a James Bond movie ever.Skyfall made $87.8million in the 3 day weekend ,a series high (Quantum is second with $67.5million).This is Daniel Craig's 3rd movie as Bond ,after the reboot ,Casino Royale ,and its sequel Quantum Of Solace.
So far ,Skyfall has made $90million in 4days in USA ,and $428million overseas ,for a grand total of $518million.The movie is set to outgross both Casino Royale ($594million) & Quantum Of Solace ($586million) in a matter of days to become the top grossing movie in the James Bond series.
Skyfall has been hyped as the best Bond movie in the 23 movie series .After gaining excellent reviews (91%) and now its grand debut ,the hype seems to be true.

2-Even with Skyfall dominating the box office ,Wreck It Ralph just dropped by 33% for a second week collection of $33million.The movie has been loved by the masses and is set to scoop the animation awards. The movie has so far made $93million domestically.

3-Like Wreck It Ralph ,Flight too stood steadily to make $15million.Made at a budget of $31million ,Flight has already made $47.7million through its domestic run itself.

4-Even after 5 weeks ,Argo still stands strong within the Top 5.The hostage movie made $6.7million for a domestic total of $85million.

5-Taken 2 kept its place from last week making $4million this time. The movie has scored $131million domestically & a worldwide gross of $348million.While Taken 2 has outgrossed Taken worldwide ,it still needs to make atleast $16million to outgross it domestically.

This week ,even James Bond will have to fight to stay on top.Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 will open along with Steven Speilberg's Lincoln.Breaking Dawn is all set to make a gigantic opening due to large number of Twilight fans gathering for the final part of the blockbuster series.Just a year ago ,Breaking Dawn Part 1 made $138million in the opening week .Its possible Part 2 can be much bigger than this.

But my pick of the week will definitely be Steven Speilberg's Lincoln. The biopic has already impressed critics ,and Daniel Lewis ,who plays Lincoln ,is a sure nominee for The Best Actor at all major Awards ceremonies in 2013.Lincoln is currently at 91%.
One movie that ill be sure never to watch will be Twilight:Breaking Dawn 2.Its an insult to the vampire genre and other chick flicks.

MTV Movie Awards 2012

I wasnt planning to post this here ,since in my eyes Mtv Movie awards is just a waste of an awards show.Anyways this year was no different, the show sucked.Atleast Twilight didnt dominate all the awards. One thing that was very evident ,was that the new heartthrob of the MTV voters is definitely ,Hunger Games.

Russel Brand ,the host, was the worst host ive ever seen. Its ok to drop some crude humour once in a while, but Russel's entire hosting revolved around dick jokes.

The only highlights of the entire show was the jaw dropping presentation of the new trailer for Dark Knight Rises.Christian Bale,Gary Oldman,Joseph Gordon & Nolan came up on stage and did a quick intro. It got a bit emotional up there when Bale got a bit choked up after seeing Heath Ledger in a montage of Batman begins & Dark Knight.

Another highlight was Johnny Depp showcasing his musical side.

Out of all the presenters ,Emma Stone was the best.As for the worst presenter it was definitely Kristen Stewart who failed to deliver some jokes and again made an awkward speech when she won for Best Kiss.

Here are the winners for MTV Movie Awards 2012. (click to read more)
