The Lady (2012)

[Fails to fulfill its potential]

The Lady (2012)
IMDB -6.8
Rotten Tomatoes -33
RJG Rating-45

The touching story of one of the the world's most courageous woman.

Starring- Michelle Yeoh ,David Thewlis
Directing- Luc Besson

The lady is the true story of Burmese political prisoner Aung San Suu Kyi. It depicts her rise to politics in Burma and her relation with her husband Micheal Aris.

Michelle Yeoh as Suu Kyi,is spot on.She is very convincing as Suu ,and gives a fine performance. The whole movie is shouldered by her.The supporting cast was very dissappointing.Other than David Thewlis (Micheal Aris) the rest indulged in extreme amounts of over acting.

Story was not very smooth and it felt too strtched and loses its charm after the first half an hour.

Direction by Luc Besson seems to be the most problemetic for the movie.Luc Besson is mainly known for writing action movies such as Taken ,Transporter series etc. ,and so the movie carries with it a violent touch which at times seems unnecessary.A prime example is how the first 10min is very touching but the rest of the movie will doesnt hold the same interest.

Overall The Lady is a timepass movie. Its a nice movie to watch to know about Suu Kyi but it isnt very memorable.

Acting-3.5/5
Story-3/5
Direction-2.5/5
Drama-4/5
Romance-3.5/5
