Expendables top on the worst week of 2012

Hollywood suffered a major hangover crash after summer ended.The 3 new releases failed to attract viewers allowing Expendables 2 to reign on for the 2nd consecutive week.This has been the lowest grossing week in 2012.

1-Expendables 2 maintained its top spot but fell to $13.5million and still is behind Expendables.Made on a budget of $100million ,the movie has racked up $52million domestically & $22million overseas by its 2nd week.

2-Bourne Legacy held on to #2 making $9.3million.The spinoff tale on the Bourne series has so far got above average reviews and is the least grossing movie from the Bourne series ,with $85million in domestic and $28million overseas.

3-ParaNorman made $8.5 million in its second week.The animated movie has made $28million already ,a good collection for a movie of its kind.

4-The Campaign made $7.4 million for a domestic gross of $64million.

5-Returning to the Top 5 is Christopher Nolan's epic finale - TDKR.The movie made $7million on its 6th week for a domestic collection of $422 million (#11 on the list). Meanwhile the movie is doing great overseas and has collected $519million already ,pushing the total collection past the $900m milestone.Overall the movie has made $941million(#17 on alltime lists).Can TDKR outgross TDK ($1billion) ?

Now where are the new releases?Premium Rush (the only noteworthy movie among the new releases ,starring Joseph Gordon) made its debut at #7 with just $6million.Even though the movie got a 75% rating,the movie isnt bringing anyone in.The movie is on its way to tank at the box office.Hit & Run & Apparition debuted at #10 & #12.

This week the new release is the star studded Lawless.Can the movie get a good start to September?

5-Ek Tha Tiger made good on its promise and delivered a box office blockbuster.The movie blasted open the opening day records ,earning more than 30cr.On its 5th day ,the movie has reached the 100cr milestone ,thus becoming the fastest movie to do so.Its well on its way to earn 200cr.This is Salman's 4th consecutive movie to make it to the 100cr mark.

Expendables under performs ,yet tops the office.

#1-This weeks new release was the much anticipated action flick-The Expendables 2.Even though it united a much bigger cast than last time,it failed to top its predecessors 2010's opening of $35million.Expendables 2 made $28.7million .On a more positive note ,the sequel even though didnt offer anything new other than the cast, has been collecting better reviews than the first.Its currently rated fresh at 67%.

#2-Bourne Legacy fell steeply in its 2nd week, making just $17million.

#3-Opening at the 3rd spot was the animated movie -Paranorman.The claymation movie made $14million in its first week.Even though its opening is below average ,the movie has been getting some fine reviews.Its rated at 88% .

#4-Campaign fell from the second spot to #4 ,earning just $13million.

#5-Sparkle ,the 3rd new release of the week made $11million.The movie which is about an aspiring singer has been getting average reviews,its currently rated 58%.

TDKR slipped 40% on its 5th week to make $11million and fall to #6.This has pushed the movie's domestic total to $409million (#12 on all time domestic list) and also overtook The Hunger Games domestic collection to become the #2 movie of 2012.The overseas collection of TDKR surpassed that of TDK easily, showing that the movie is comparatively weak just in the domestic market.TDKR has made $488million overseas so far ,for a total collection of $898million (#22 in the all time lists).

The new movie to release this week will be Premium Rush ,a thriller movie starring Joseph Gordon.

Both new releases make a good opening and gain above average rating.

1-Bourne Legacy,the spin off series from the Matt Damon starer Bourne series opened at the top spot as expected with $40million.But it has been getting average reviews and currently holds a rating of 53%.

2-The Campaign,a comedy movie starring Will Farrell, too opened decently with $27.4million.The political comedy also stars Hangover's Zach Galifiankis.Campaign has been getting above average reviews and holds a rating of 67%.

3-After 3 weeks of domination ,TDKR finally stepped down to #3 earning $19million in week 4.The epic finale has so far made 390million domestically(#15 in domestic list) and 445million overseas for a grand total of $835million (#40 in worldwide gross list).

4-Hope Springs ,the 3rd new release of the week made $15million.The comedy movie about older couples stars Meryl Streep & Steve Carrell has been getting positive reviews and has a rating of 72%.

5-Diary of a Wimpy Kid 3 made another $8million in its second week.The movie is a hit but lags behind its predecessors.

Total Recall is at #6 with $8million.The movie made a sharp fall and is heading towards a huge flop.

As summer heads towards a close ,the biggest action star studded movie makes the entry- Expendables 2 !

6-Avenger Fans Celebrate ! Joss Whedon will return to write and direct Avengers 2.While it was not certain Joss would be back for the sequel initially ,Disney confirmed his return.The sequel is aimed for a 2015 release and will follow the events set after Iron Man 3,Thor 2 ,Captain America 2 & Guardians Of the Galaxy.

7-A bit of a sad news from The Hobbit.The Hobbit Part 1 will not be shown in the 48fps format in most theaters.The format will be tried out in a handful of theaters.The new format is said to be the next stage of movie making ,but Jackson's Hobbit got lots of negative responses for being too sharp and realistic when the trial footage from the Hobbit was shown.Since the new format will have a bit of getting used ,Warner Bros are planning to release Hobbit Part 1 in 48fps in select cinemas only.

8-American Pie 8 (or 4 or Reunion) will have sequel.The 2012,movie which was said to be the final movie of the series was too big of a success to end.The movie made $233million worldwide ,and Universal has already roped in Reunion writer-directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg.

9-The next story is from TDKR.Theres news from a deleted scene feturing Bane's backstory.Even though many have already seen the movie ,the people from the Middle East and some other parts of the worls are still in the dark about TDKR.

TDKR crushes new releases on Weekend #3

#1-Earning $36.4million in its 3rd weekend ,TDKR crushed the new competition to stay atop for the 3rd week in a row.Overseas TDKR has made $378million,thus putting its worldwide collection to $733million.
 TDKR is now the 3rd fastest movie to make $350million (domestically),17 days.The Dark Knight made it in 14 and Avengers in 10.

#2-Total Recall opened in the 2nd spot with $26million.The remake of the 1990 movie,failed to take down the dark knight.Unfortunately Total Recall has almost sealed its fate.With a budget of $125million ,and another anticipated movie (Bourne Legacy) opening next week, Total Recall is expected to bomb at the box office.Total Recall also failed critically and holds a rating of 31%.

#3-Diary Of a Wimpy Kid 3 too couldnt make much of a mark in its debut ,making just $17million.While the previous 2 DOWK opened with a collection of more than $21million ,DOWK3's opening is a sign that it will be the low grosser of the series.
But unlike Total Recall,DOWK3 has a budget of just $22million,that ensure the movie will easily make a profit.
DOWK3 has been getting mixed reviews and holds a 50% rating.

#4-Ice Age 4 made way for the new releases making $8.4million.It has so far made $131million and trails behind the other Ice Age movies which have made more than $175million.But Ice Age 4 is doing pretty well outside and has made $715million worldwide.

#5-Last weeks new release ,The Watch ,made just $6million and is on its way to become another big flop.

Ted stood strong within the Top 10 after 6 weeks at #6.It made $5.4million and as said before ,its a surprise hit of the summer like The Hangover.
Step Up 4 fell 3 places from last week to #7 making a paltry $5.3million in its 2nd week.It has been doing similar business as its predecessors but might end up as the lowest grossing movie in the series.

This week the highly anticipated Bourne Legacy and the Will Farell comedy The Campaign will release.Bourne Legacy is almost a guaranteed pick, to knock TDKR from the top spot

Douglas Quaid(Colin Farrell) is a factory worker who commutes daily from the Colony to the United federation of Britain via the 'Fall' - a mass rapid transit system that goes through the Earth's core to connect the only 2 habitable parts of the world on its diametrically opposite ends. He has a beautiful wife Lori (the extremely beautiful Kate Beckinsale) who is simply too beautiful to be truly his wife and yet she is. The mundane nature of his work tires his mind so much that an ad for 'Rekall' - a company that promises to replace your mind's current memories with memories you would like to have such as secret fantasies, unrealized ambitions and so on, really catches his eye. He goes there 1 day and opts for 'Rekall'. It is then that they realize that his memories had already been erased and altered. All hell breaks loose as the moment his mind i
s touched, the authorities come to take him. Douglas Quaid is now a wanted man on the run who may in reality have been a secret agent in the past. What happens next??

'Total Recall' is a very well made film from a technical point of view with a highly engaging background score. What it sorely lacks is any soul or emotion. Other than that, it is quite a good watch. Colin Farrell gives a sincere performance as the worried and tense looking Quaid. However, it is the intensity of Kate Beckinsale's performance which drives the film to quite an extent. In fact, she may even be the best female action star of our time. Jessica Biel is completely wasted in this one. There are several action sequences which are very impressive and the CGI looks real for the most part. But in this age of Bourne Identity and the lot, lots of stuff feel familiar. However, it's Colin Farrell and Kate Beckinsale who drive this film and the result is worth watching once. If the film had at least some emotion, it would have been a lot better. Oh and, they could have thrown in a couple of jokes too!!!
