TDKR #7

TDKR hit another milestone,as it was honoured as one of the Top 10 movies of 2012 by AFI & TIME.Does this boost its chances to get nominated in the Best Picture Category?
I think TDKR increased its chances.Failure to nominate TDK, 2nd biggest blockbuster of the year ,Recognition for AFI, looks like TDKR has a 70% chance to make it through.

Les Miserables #2

The cinematography list will be a tight race.I think Les Miserables fate lies after its release.Right now i think it has a 30% chance to get nominated.

Lincoln #2-3

While its simple ,its still pretty much a bunch of lazy ads.Is it because Lincoln is guaranteed to make it Big at all the award ceremonies? Lincoln sweeped up 7 nominations at Golden Globes ,and i think its gonna sweep up the Oscar noms too!

Moonrise Kingdom #4

Moonrise will be aiming for the Picture & Writing noms.i dont think it has any chance at cinematography.Not that it was bad (the movie was amazing) ,its just that the race is very tight.

ParaNorman #4

Shockingly ParaNorma was snubbed at the Golden Globes.If you check the new ad, the new ad you can see a small note saying Lovingly made in The USA.Golden Globes is a British affair ,and ParaNorman is hoping the American Academy doesnt snub it. Still ,Paranorman deserves all the praise.Its the best animated movie of the year.

Skyfall #4

British movie ,Skyfall failed to get in at the Golden Globes (except Adele's Theme Song) ,and i think it will be ignored by the Americans as well.Although a Supporting Actor nom for Javier should be considered.

Zero Dark Thirty #3

This is the big movie that is expected to sweep the major awards at the Oscar.Kathryn has done it before with Hurt Locker and she has brought up another thriller with ZDT.Considering its the movie about America's biggest and victorious manhunt,ZDT has a large support behind it.

In the era where majority of the animation movies are made with computers ,the stop motion movies are slowly disappearing.In a year theres barely 2-3 that do release ,and out of them very rarely does one become a superhit.Stop motion might not be fancy but if put to good use, as done for Paranorman,it definitely is a heart warming experience.
The animation is brilliant and just smooth.Everything is done neatly and gives the movie the wacky look and 80's effects.The characters are well drawn up and the emotions are perfectly captured and the voice cast do a great job.

Usually its the Pixar movies that rule in the story department ,but this year ParaNorman gives the audience a beautiful tale.The story is original and is a mixture of comedy ,horror and some surprising drama.Its a straight forward story ,but the climax was just outstanding.The story is funny with a slight sprinkle of horror ,but theres enough material to keep both adults & kids entertained.

Direction is top notch.The movie grabs our attention from the very start and doesnt let go till the very end.Add to the fact that the climax was just beautiful ,raises Paranorman to a high level.The pacing of the movie was fast and never dulls in any place.

Overall ,ParaNorman is a brilliant animated movie ,one of the best movies of 2012.A must watch!

Theres not much hope of this movie making it into the Top 10 ,but theres a good chance of Keira Knightley getting a nomination for Best Actress.

Brave #2

Unlike Up & Toy Story 3 ,Brave isnt worthy to get a Best Picture nomination.

TDKR #4

Theres a slight possibility TDKR might edge itself into the Top 10 Best Picture nominees but winning it is quite impossible.
The Nolan Bros deserve a nomination for the Adapted Screenplay.

TDKR #5

The cast of the Dark Knight Trilogy are solid and have given amazing performances.Christian will miss out on Best Actor ,Anne is set for Best Actress for Les Miserables .Gary Oldman ,Micheal Caine & Morgan have been ignored from the days of Batman Begins.Tom Hardy has less than 10%chance to make it through.

Hobbit

Hobbit is a lock for technical awards ,but for the major categories?Based on initial reviews ,Hobbit will make it through for Adapted Screenplay if the competition is light.

Hotel Transylvania

One of the big animated hits of 2012 ,Hotel T has a good chance to be one of the 5 animated movie nominees.

Madagascar 3

Its a great movie and might get a nomination ,but winning it is quite difficult.

Moonrise Kingdom

Wes Anderson is a brilliant director and His latest movie has racked up universal praise.Its a guarantee for a Best Picture nomination.

ParaNorman

Easily the best animated movie of 2012,ParaNorman should not only get nominated but also win it.ParaNorman has the edge over the other animated movies ,but its main competition will be Frankenweenie.

This is 40

The movie is yet to be released ,but by initial promos ,it looks like a classic Apatow movie.And Apatow movies dont make it into Oscars however good they might be.If This is 40 turns out to be great ,it might get the Best COmedy/Musical at the Golden Globes, but the Academy wont consider comedies.

Possession tops Lawless ,TDKR enters the 1billion club

1-The horror movie ,The Possession took over the top spot with $17million.The true story may not have pleased the critics but it managed to draw in the audiences.The movie has a rotten rating of 35%.

2-Lawless made a weak debut with just $9million.The movie which is about criminal brothers against the law failed to attract the crowds.Lawless has been getting above average reviews ,many praising the acting department (Shia ,Tom Hardy,Gary Oldman) and the gritty tale.Its currently rated 65%.

3-Expendables 2 made way to #3 ,with $8.8million.The movie has raked up $66million domestically and another $66million overseas in its 3 weeks.Even though the movie is said to be much better than the first part,it still is lagging behind its predecessor.

4-Bourne Legacy made $7.2million.The spin off has made $96million domestically and a total of $157million worldwide ,but it still lags behind the original series critically as well as financially.

5-The stop motion animated movie ,ParaNorman made $6.55million.The movie has made a total of $55million so far.

At #7 TDKR made $5.9 million on its 7th week pushing its domestic collection to $431million (#9 on all time lists).But as i mentioned earlier ,TDKR is doing very well overseas.The movie has made $574million so far overseas.This helped TDKR cross the $1billion milestone in worldwide collections.TDKR is now #12 on worldwide collections list with $1.005 billion ,overtaking its predecessor The Dark Knight ($1.003billion).With this ,Christopher Nolan has become the second director, after James Cameron(Avatar& Titanic) ,to have 2 of his films make more than a Billion dollars at the box office.Similarly ,Christian Bale now has 2 movies in the billion dollar club and is just behind Johnny Depp ,who has 3 (Alice ,PiratesOTC 2&4).

Meanwhile ,2012 Summer blockbuster winner ,The Avengers was re-released and managed to reach $1.5 billion.The movie is #3 on both domestic($620million) as well as on worldwide grossing ($1.502billion)lists.

Not many good movies this week.The Cold Light Of Day,The Words & The Bachelorette have already got below average reviews and dont look strong enough to make a good debut at the box office.

Expendables top on the worst week of 2012

Hollywood suffered a major hangover crash after summer ended.The 3 new releases failed to attract viewers allowing Expendables 2 to reign on for the 2nd consecutive week.This has been the lowest grossing week in 2012.

1-Expendables 2 maintained its top spot but fell to $13.5million and still is behind Expendables.Made on a budget of $100million ,the movie has racked up $52million domestically & $22million overseas by its 2nd week.

2-Bourne Legacy held on to #2 making $9.3million.The spinoff tale on the Bourne series has so far got above average reviews and is the least grossing movie from the Bourne series ,with $85million in domestic and $28million overseas.

3-ParaNorman made $8.5 million in its second week.The animated movie has made $28million already ,a good collection for a movie of its kind.

4-The Campaign made $7.4 million for a domestic gross of $64million.

5-Returning to the Top 5 is Christopher Nolan's epic finale - TDKR.The movie made $7million on its 6th week for a domestic collection of $422 million (#11 on the list). Meanwhile the movie is doing great overseas and has collected $519million already ,pushing the total collection past the $900m milestone.Overall the movie has made $941million(#17 on alltime lists).Can TDKR outgross TDK ($1billion) ?

Now where are the new releases?Premium Rush (the only noteworthy movie among the new releases ,starring Joseph Gordon) made its debut at #7 with just $6million.Even though the movie got a 75% rating,the movie isnt bringing anyone in.The movie is on its way to tank at the box office.Hit & Run & Apparition debuted at #10 & #12.

This week the new release is the star studded Lawless.Can the movie get a good start to September?

Expendables under performs ,yet tops the office.

#1-This weeks new release was the much anticipated action flick-The Expendables 2.Even though it united a much bigger cast than last time,it failed to top its predecessors 2010's opening of $35million.Expendables 2 made $28.7million .On a more positive note ,the sequel even though didnt offer anything new other than the cast, has been collecting better reviews than the first.Its currently rated fresh at 67%.

#2-Bourne Legacy fell steeply in its 2nd week, making just $17million.

#3-Opening at the 3rd spot was the animated movie -Paranorman.The claymation movie made $14million in its first week.Even though its opening is below average ,the movie has been getting some fine reviews.Its rated at 88% .

#4-Campaign fell from the second spot to #4 ,earning just $13million.

#5-Sparkle ,the 3rd new release of the week made $11million.The movie which is about an aspiring singer has been getting average reviews,its currently rated 58%.

TDKR slipped 40% on its 5th week to make $11million and fall to #6.This has pushed the movie's domestic total to $409million (#12 on all time domestic list) and also overtook The Hunger Games domestic collection to become the #2 movie of 2012.The overseas collection of TDKR surpassed that of TDK easily, showing that the movie is comparatively weak just in the domestic market.TDKR has made $488million overseas so far ,for a total collection of $898million (#22 in the all time lists).

The new movie to release this week will be Premium Rush ,a thriller movie starring Joseph Gordon.
