The acting is the most powerful pillar of The Master.Every scene is powered by raw intensity of its lead actors.Joaquin has just immersed himself in this complex role of his.Its raw and tests his acting skills to the core.Excellent from start to finish and one of the best of this year.Playing the titular role ,but infact a supporting role is Philip Seymour Hoffman.He brings the character to its peak of perfection and controls it brilliantly.The way he has portrayed the character is amazing.Couple of scenes where his character suddenly loses his outside layer of emotion is handled perfectly ,showing Philip's strength of acting.Amy Adams has done a good job as well ,although not as great as the main.

The story for The Master is undeniably based on the scam-cult ,Scientology.But the origination of a cult isnt its primary subject.Its the story of a troubled soldier finding his place in this cult ,and his faith in the cult's founder ,aka The Master.The 2 main characters are so rich in its development that we are drawn into their worlds.But the story isnt meant for all.The story pretends to be deep, but its infact pretty simple.Its nothing but a tale about 2 men and at times its infuriating trying to understand them.

Direction is beautiful.Paul Thomas Anderson is known for such movies.The cinematography is beautiful and some scenes are just gorgeous.Hes extracted the best from his cast and created a great movie.The pacing of the movie is mixed ,it varies from slow to fast during its run.He tries to give the movie a false sense of impotence and towards the end ,its all just falls apart leaving you with a somewhat poor and forgettable ending.

Overall ,Master is an excellent watch if you want to see some great acting ,but the story isnt meant for all.

Ben Affleck is a guarantee spot for the Best Director.As for winning it ,hes got a 80% chance.

Brave #4

The Brave FYC Ads are quite simple.This might be due to the fact they are highlighting their animation rather than fill up the ad with words.Quite a brave thing to to do 

Cloud Atlas #2

Even though it has got some excellent praise ,CA can miss out on the awards after Time Magazine included it in its list of Worst Movies of 2012.
BUt if CA does make it through it might just get one of the technical nominations.

Django Unchained #1

Quentin has made yet another great movie with Django (according to initial reviews) ,and Leo has been getting some excellent praise.So he can be expected to land in a Supporting Actor Nomination.As for Django ,Best Picture & Director nominations are a guarantee ,but winning them is not possible.

Hobbit #2

While Hobbit is a good movie ,it isnt actually attracting awards friendly reviews.Peter Jackson's Hobbit might feature in technical nominations rather than the major awards.So Peter Jackson getting a Best Director nomination is a 10%guarantee.

Life of Pi #3

The movie has been getting loads of great reviews and will be a guarantee to feature in majority of the categories ,it being a technical and a drama movie (like Hugo) .

Madagascar #3

The Best Animated Movie will be a tight competition this year,and Madagascar 3 has a strong chance to get nominated but wont be a winner.

The Master #1

This movie is one of the STRONG contenders for sweeping the awards.Its been highly praised in all aspects from direction to cinematography.So its guaranteed to collect loads of nominations and might end up as the winner of the Oscar night.

Moonrise Kingdom #3

This small budget movie has wowed the audience and critics alike and will be a favourite among the jury.The original screenplay is its strongest factor.

Silver Linings Playbook #1

David Russel has made another strong movie like his previous ,The Fighter.Jennifer Lawrence is guaranteed to get a nomination for Best Actress ,but Bradley Cooper might not make it through.

 

Skyfall #2,3

Skyfall is the best & the highest grossing Bond movie ,but this wont have any leverage on its success at the Oscars.With a strong competition this year ,Skyfall might miss on Best Picture & Director.The theme song was brilliant and has a good chance to get nominated.

Kathryn did it before with Hurt Locker and she has done it again with ZDT.The true story behind the hunt for Osama ,is another strong contender for the major awards.According to initial reviews ,ZDT is a guarantee nominee for Best Director,Picture,Actress. Winning them depends on the jurys state of mind.

4 New Releases Battle for top spot.TDKR #7 in the domestic & worldwide lists.

#1 & #2 -Jake Gyllenhaal starrer, End Of Watch ,tied with Jennifer Lawrence starrer ,House at the End of the Road ,with both earning $13million.
End of Watch is a cop-drama-thriller ,written & directed by Training Day writer ,David Ayer.Even though its a low budget movie ($7million) ,the opening collection is below average for a movie of its sort.EOW has been getting good reviews praising its lead actors ,Jake Gyllenhaal & Micheal Pena.The movie is currently rated at 85%.

House at the End of the Road ,like EOW is a low budget movie ($10million) but still its debut is below expectations.But the horror movie has been getting very poor reviews ,with many complaining its a very predictable movie with not much thrills nor horror.The movie is rated 13%.

#3-Coming very close to the top spot was ,Trouble with the Curve ,making $12.7million.The baseball themed movie , marks the return of Clint Eastwood to an acting role (2009's Gran Torino was his previous starring role).The movie also has Amy Adams & Justin Timberlake.Just like the top 2 movies ,TWTC too has a below average debut.The movie has been getting average reviews ,with many saying Clint Eastwood & Amy Adams' performances are the highlights of this predictable story.The movie is currently rated at 52%.

#4-Finding Nemo 3D ,made to #4 with $9.4million.This makes Finding Nemo the lowest grossing movie in the recent set of 3D converted animated movies.

#5-Resident Evil Retribution crashed from its top spot last week ,earning just $6.7million this week.Such a steep fall can be credited to the movies poor reviews and general lack of interest from the audience for the Resident series.The movie has made $33million domestically ,but has already grossed thrice its domestic gross overseas ,$103million ,bringing its worldwide total to $136million.

The 4th new release of the week ,Dredd , bombed at the box office ,making just $6.3million,coming at #6.The $50million movie is set to be a big disappointment.The reviews for Dredd has been highly positive .Many praised its violence & special effects and has a rating of 77%.
The critically praised movie,The Master made $5million in its 2nd week.The movie is slowly expanding to more theaters each week.Praised for its acting,direction and story ,the movie has a rating of 86%.

On its 10th week ,TDKR made $1.2million.So far it has made $$443million domestically ,ranking it at #7 in the domestic charts ,overtaking Shrek 2.The next target,for TDKR in the domestic list is Star Wars ,$460million.But it seems TDKR wont be rising on the domestic charts any more.
With $623million collection overseas,TDKR has made $1.066billion worldwide.This puts it #7 in the all time lists ,overtaking PiratesOTC 2.The next target for TDKR is Lord Of The Rings3 ,$1.119billion.Again,this seems to be another long shot for TDKR.

This week, we have 4 more interesting movies.Looper,Hotel Transylvania,Perfect Pitch & Wont Back Down.
My recommendation for the week is Looper.The action thriller has been getting rave reviews.Its rated currently at 92%.The mind bending tale stars Joseph Gordon & Bruce Willis.
Hotel Transylvania is an animated movie ,starring Adam Sandler.the movie failed to impress critics and will be more of a kids attraction.
Perfect Pitch stars Anna Kendrick and is about a college singing competition.
Wont Back Down stars 2 top actresses ,Maggie Gyllenhaal & Viola Davis and is about two mothers raising the standards of education at their local school.

1-The Master ,Paul Thomas Anderson's latest directorial venture has been getting excellent early reviews.Boasting of excellent performances and great direction ,The Master is set for some Oscar attention.

2-Ronald Emmerich's blockbuster hit Independence Day has finally got its sequel ,or to be

exact ,"sequels".Yep,Independence Day will be a trilogy soon.
The 2 new parts will be called -Independence Day Forever:Part 1 and Independence Day Forever:Part 2.Both new parts will be converted into 3D.Unfortunately,its being said that Will Smith wont reprise his role in the movie.I was not very impressed with ID ,and so im not very excited for the sequels either.

3-The gory ,superhit ,300 is getting a prequel,and its called - 300: Rise Of An Empire.The movie will star Eva Green, Rodrigo Santoro, Sullivan Stapleton and Andrew Tiernan.
The story will be set before the events of 300 ,and is based on the Battle of Artemisium.In this naval battle ,various Greece tribes unite to stop the Persian invasion.Rodrigo will return to play Xerxes,while Sullivan will play the main lead as Themistocles.
Zack Snyder will be producing ,while Noam Murro directs.The story is written by Frank Miller (writer of acclaimed comics such as 300,The Dark Knight Returns,Sin City).
The movie is set for release on August 2 2013.

4-Doug Ellin ,creator of the hit TV show Entourage has said the script for the Entourage movie is almost finished.The TV series that followed the lives of Vinny(an upcoming actor) ,his friends and his agent (Ari Gold) ran for 8 seasons and ending on 2011.While the movie was inevitable ,not much news on its developments have reached the fans.
Doug has said the movie will feature all the lead characters and would be taking place 6 months after the events of the Season 8 finale.

5-Guillermo Del Toro's (Hellboy , Pan's Labyrinth) next project ,Pacific Rim will be undergoing 3D conversion.Unfortunately this is directly against what the visionary director wanted.Del Toro had said previously that Pacific Rim wasnt suited for 3D.But it seems that Warner Bros will be going against his wishes with the 3D conversion.

Joss Whedon will return to write and direct Avengers 2.While it was not certain Joss would be back for the sequel initially ,Disney confirmed his return.The sequel is aimed for a 2015 release and will follow the events set after Iron Man 3,Thor 2 ,Captain America 2 & Guardians Of the Galaxy.

7-A bit of a sad news from The Hobbit.The Hobbit Part 1 will not be shown in the 48fps format in most theaters.The format will be tried out in a handful of theaters.The new format is said to be the next stage of movie making ,but Jackson's Hobbit got lots of negative responses for being too sharp and realistic when the trial footage from the Hobbit was shown.Since the new format will have a bit of getting used ,Warner Bros are planning to release Hobbit Part 1 in 48fps in select cinemas only.

8-American Pie 8 (or 4 or Reunion) will have sequel.The 2012,movie which was said to be the final movie of the series was too big of a success to end.The movie made $233million worldwide ,and Universal has already roped in Reunion writer-directors Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg.

9-The next story is from TDKR.Theres news from a deleted scene feturing Bane's backstory.Even though many have already seen the movie ,the people from the Middle East and some other parts of the worls are still in the dark about TDKR.

HIMYM has been strtching its story for too long and plans to go beyond the 8th and into the 9th season.I dont know why they are doing so since the last few seasons are losing its charm due to its needless expansion.Season 8 begins next month.Will Jason Segal actually leave the show ? And even if he does ,will it affect HIMYM
