The acting is pretty much solid ,but it does have some flaws.Leading the way is Ryan Gosling who gives a very good job.BUT there are flaws which i can only put the blame on the director,more on that later.Vithaya Pansringarm who plays the cop, is brilliant and is the highlight of this movie.He brings peace as well as terror in plenty of scenes.In my opinion ,Vithaya is the lead in this movie rather than Ryan.Kristin Scott is another highlight ,and gives a good performance as a villain.

The story.Its simple but is drowned in a sea of over the top symbolism.The story is at most times wierd and empty.Any signs of a coherent story begins in the second half.The first half is empty with long silent shots.Not to mention the weird dream sequences.The lack of dialogues really kill this movie since it would have made the movie better by 10 times atleast.

The direction by Nicolas is a big fail.He tries to create a movie that boasts of some deep psychological meanings ,but instead creates one long boring violent movie which has nothing good to offer.He made Ryan's character completely useless and one sided.The character could have been armed with some dialogues but instead we have Ryan seriously at the edge of going over the top.The pacing is very slow.The first half is confusing and irrational.Only God Forgives had huge potential but Nicolas ruins it ,with too many silent scenes and unnecessary violence.

On the positive side ,theres some great looking scenes.Like the Ryan vs Vithaya fight ,the interrogation scene at the club,plus some excellent cinematography.But its sad that its wasted in this type of a movie.

Overall ,Only God Forgives is NOT for the casual viewers AT ALL.Fans of Nicolas & Ryan's earlier collaboration DRIVE ,can sit through this.The movie tries so hard to be over the top Artistic ,but it just doesnt match up.

The sequel to 2009's critically panned Gi Joe ,has one thing going easy, its following up a bad movie ,you cant get worse than that ,right?

Getting the newly crowned Action star ,Dwayne Rock ,was a BIG move for the movie.Rock isnt the best actor around ,but he surely is charismatic and fun to be seen in action movies of this sort.He once again does a good job with GI Joe 2.On the down side kicking out Channing was a backfire.Though it was good that Channing came back to finish his role ,he would have been a perfect match with Dwayne.Coming to the supporting roles ,theres Adrianne Palicki & DJ Cotrona ,as Jaye & Flint.They arent too good ,and serve as just eye candy and Channing substitute ,respectively.Byung-hun Lee & Ray Park as Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes are entertaining.

The story is weak and just falls apart terribly in the second half.It just doesnt make any sense and it all conveniently takes place.Even for a summer action movie ,the story is kiddish and stupid.The grand final evil masterplan about the Zeus missiles was one of the most idiotic thing ive seen.

Direction by Jon M. Chu ,was below average.The pacing was even in the first half but by the second half it gets uneven.The action scenes were initially great ,but towards the end it started getting dull and repetitive.By the time the movie enters into its climax ,it had lost its entire steam and was just dragging on and on.

The mountain fight scene with Storm Shadow was the highlight from all the rest of the dull stuff.

Overall GI Joe Retaliation is a better movie than its first part ,but its still a disappointing dumb action movie.

Conjuring beats competition on crowded weekend

[Jul19-21]

#1- Conjuring opened at the top spot with $41.5million.The horror movie directed by James Wan.This is a solid opening for a horror movie ,that too one with just a $20million budget.

Critics were overall pleased with the output ,with many praising the movies horror tactics and presentation.It has a score of 85% as of now.

#2- Despicable Me2 ,refused to drop out of the Top3 ,as it made an excellent stand with $25million ,dropping by just 40%.The sequel has now overtaken its predecessor.DM2 has made a worldwide gross of $584million from just a $76million budget ,a huge success!

#3- But it wasnt all win for the animation movies ,as Turbo crashed with just $21million.The story of a super powered snail competing against cars was just too childish to be taken seriously by the adults.the critics gave it average reviews saying it was nothing but a colorful movie aimed just for kids.Turbo has a score of 66%.Its hard to say whether it can recover its $135million budget ,but it all depends on how it can fare in the overseas market.

#4- Grown Ups 2 did surprisingly well considering the horrible reviews it has got and the competition this week.Falling by 50% ,the movie managed to make $20million, bringing its worldwide total to $88million ,thus recovering its budget also.

#5- The 3rd new movie of the week was RED2 ,which also didnt do much good at the box office.The movie made $18.5million ,and will have to depend on the overseas  to recover its $85million budget.

Critics were disappointed with the movie, giving it negative reviews.Majority said the movie seemed to have lost the fun nature that was present in the first part.It was given a rating of 40%.

The 4th new release ,RIPD was a disaster.Making just $12million ,RIPD was critically panned by the critics ,giving it just 11%.The idiotic story and cliched structure of the movie ,and not to forget the over the top performances ,was the main issues.With a budget  of $130million ,its RIP for RIPD.

Despicable Me 2 charged into the top 5 ,overtaking Croods.Its the second animated movie to enter the Top 5.

This week ,another superhero descends onto the big screen ,and its THE WOLVERINE!!

The Wolverine- JUL26

story- Wolverine travels to Japan and meets an old foe after the events of X-Men 3.

+ The character ,Wolverine is a favorite among all.Huge Jackman returns.Acclaimed director ,Darren Aronofsky was set to direct ,but bowed out due to personal reasons.Considering he liked the script ,the story might be a solid one.

- Although the character is great ,his movies might not be so good.X-Men 3 & Wolverine Origins was met with poor reviews.Lack of a proper villain ,or subpar villains is another troublesome issue.

The initial reviews are mixed for the movie so far and quite contrasting.It has an initial rating of 69%.So i guess if you like Huge Jackman and are a fan of the Wolverine ,this movie is a must watch.

The Battle for 2015 is all set! After announcing that the Man Of Steel sequel will feature Batman in 2015 ,the Marvel people have announced the name of the Avengers Sequel which is set for 2015!!

The sequel to the blockbuster 2012 movie will be called------AVENGERS:AGE OF ULTRON

As of now Vin Diesel's role is still kept in wraps ,and he could be a part of either Guardians of the Galaxy or Avengers2.

Rumours say that VinDiesel could be playing "Vision" ,a robot created by Ultron to attack/mislead the Avengers ,but later on Vision joins the Avengers group.

The main discussion about Vision is that his story is part of Antman ,who will be appearing only after Avengers2.Ultron himself was created by Antman/Dr Pym.So its interesting how the story would be formed around these villains without introducing the superhero-Antman.

Well here we go ...are you ready?

The sequel to Man Of Steel ,will not only feature Superman but also BATMAN! This superhero duo movie is set for a 2015 release!

Hopefully if that goes well ,the next DC superhero who gets a big screen treatment will be none other than FLASH in 2016!

And FINALLY ,the DC superheroes will join together for the JUSTICE LEAGUE in 2017!

Zack Snyder (director), Goyer (writer) and Henry Cavill (Superman Actor) have all confirmed they will be part of the sequel.So far, any sign of Nolan's involvement isnt clear. I suspect he will get a credit as a producer ,but i dont think hes gonna get anymore involved than that.And Christian Bale has confirmed he wont be returning to the Batman franchise.Who gets to be the new Batman ,is still a mystery.

News from Entertainment World -Tom Hanks,Spiderman and more

1- Tom Hanks is set to return as Robert Langdon ,the famous character from Dan Brown's novels.Although its not for The Lost Symbol (the 3rd novel featuring Langdon) ,but for Inferno (Dan's 4th novel in the Langdon series).

Inferno was released this year and as usual featured some controversial subjects ,this time being about Dante's legendary poem ,"The Divine Comedy".

Sony has announced a date for the movie ,December 18, 2015 ,and hopefully will bring back director Ron Howard as well.

Tom Hanks & Howard were to reunite for The Lost Symbol ,but due to unknown reasons ,the production was delayed and now its shelved.

2-Paranormal Activity 5 ,to be postponed to next year.After the failure of the 4th part and due to the high competition during the October-November time ,PA5 is thinking of shifting the movie off to January  2014.With movies such as Counselor (Ridley Scott) ,Oldboy ,Carrie & Enders Game ,the chances of PA5 to be a disaster was almost certain.Especially with the poor content and the way the franchise has turned rotten ,it seems to be a wise move.Theres no news about PA5 as of now,no news about whos directing or starring or whats it even about.

3-Neill has confirmed that he is working on the script to District 10,the sequel to his grand debut back in 2009 ,District 9.The climax of D9 ,left the viewers in a sort of cliffhanger and anxiously waiting for more.

4-Fast and Furious 7 is being directed by James Wan (Insidious 1-2 ,Saw ,Conjuring).James promises to take the franchise in a totally new direction with a revenge fueled story.

5-Hans Zimmer has been revealed to be the music director of The Amazing Spiderman 2.Even though the movie has garnered very poor set of news with its casting and story ,Hans Zimmer's addition might be a bright spot for the sequel.

6-Initial reviews for The Wolverine has not been too great.Reviews have all been average ,and it has a rating of 56% currently.

#1-Despicable Me 2 made a strong stand against the new releases and managed to come on top.It made $43.8million ,in its second week.So far the sequel has been a giant hit for Universal Studios.From a budget of just $76million ,the movie has already made a worldwide collection of $471million ,and has already tied up with Monsters University to be the biggest animated movie of this year.

#2-Sadly Grown Ups 2 also proved to be a bigger success than its predecessor.Making $41.5million ,Grown Ups 2 had no problem getting the crowds in.But like most Adam Sandler movies ,this too is a TERRIBLE movie.The critics panned it ,giving it just 06%.Making it this summers worst movie ,overtaking Shyamalan's After Earth.

#3-Pacific Rim was the real loser of the week ,falling behind Grown Ups.Although most expected it to suffer bigger losses ,it somehow managed to keep the hope up ,making $37million.For a movie with a huge $190million budget ,this is way too short ,but its hope now is on the overseas collection.So far from over seas it has made $53million ,bringing in a grand total of $90million.

Critcs were pleased with the movie ,and gave it 71%.Most said it was definitely trying to be more stylish rather than pack in a good story.But it was still a fun summer movie with its high dose of epic fantasy ,battling robots and sea monsters.

#4-The Heat wasnt affected much by the top 3 ,as it made $14million ,bringing its worldwide total to $128million.The movie still lags behind Bridesmaids and this years Identity Thief.

#5-Lone Ranger crashed down heavily as it barely managed to make $11million.This is a very steep fall and confirmed Disney's (its producers) fear that Lone Ranger is another massive flop for the studio.So far the movie has made a worldwide total of $119million.

story-a dead cop joins a team of dead cops ,called RIPD (Rest In Peace Dept) ,to capture his murderer.

- just read the synopsis above,its terrible! the trailers were boring ,looks like a ripoff of Men In black.Jeff Bridges goes way way over the top, judging by the trailers.

Red 2- JUL19

Story-Frank brings together his team to track down a stolen nuclear device.

+ original cast of Bruce Willis,Mary Louise,Malkovich,Helen return.

- Itll be a hard task to replicate the fun of the first.Filling the movie with too many stars can be too much for the movie to handle.

The Conjuring- JUL19

story-2 paranormal investigators investigate their last suspected haunting case.

+its directed by James Wan of Saw(the first one) and Insidious fame.The initial response has been awesome.

-horror movies have not been upto any good standards this year,and theres a chance that Conjuring too will fall for the usual cliches.

MY PICK OF THE WEEK IS - CONJURING!

Im a big horror fan ,and Conjuring is by James who has dished out some good horror flicks.Initial reviews have been highly positive.

My second pick will be RED2,it looks fun but i doubt whether itll be great as the first one.

BUT PLEASE SKIP Turbo and RIPD! Save your money.Both these Ryan Reynolds movies look terrible and are up to no good!

RIP Cory (May 11, 1982 – July 13, 2013)

The lead actor for Glee (seasons 1-3),Cory Monteith ,passed away today at the age of just 31.Not much details is available ,but foul play is ruled out.

Cory's substance abuse had made him join a rehab and in turn missed the finale episodes for Glee Season 4.
Cory played Finn Hudson,the lead star in Glee ,the comedy/drama musical TV Show.After his character graduated in the Season 3 finale ,Cory played a supporting role in Season 4.

A female FBI agent is paired with a female cop to take down a drug lord.

Starring- Sandra Bullock,Melissa McCarthy

Director- Paul Feig

Sandra Bullock & Melissa McCarthy take the lead in the Heat.They have a good chemistry with each other and at certain scenes it carries off.Among the two ,it was Melissa that stole most the scenes.Sandra on the other hand seems a bit out of place in some scenes.She looks too anemic and a bit old to play such a role.Melissa & Sandra are no strangers to comedy.But like most of her recent movies,Melissa is great in comic scenes ,and it shows in The Heat.

Story for the Heat is nothing special.Its the usual buddy cop movie ,this time replaced with female leads.The story is too simple ,and it relies on Sandra & Melissa to cover up this deficiency.The climax itself is cliched and extremely predictable.

Direction by Paul Feig is good.He manages to keep the movie afloat even with all the above mentioned issues.The pacing of the movie was ok.

Overall ,The Heat is just another one of the buddy-cop movies that you might have seen plenty of times before.Theres nothing interesting nor that funny in this movie.See it if you are a fan of Melissa or Sandra or if you have nothing else to do.
