TDKR
Hans Zimmer didnt win for his scores in any Nolan movie so far. While its 90% sure he will get a nomination ,his victory is far from guaranteed.Best of luck Hans !

Intouchables
One of the best movies of 2011 ,its appearing for a Best Foreign Picture Nomination.Though it wont make a sweep like The Artist did last time ,it can win the Best Foreign Picture. The only strong competition in that category is Amour.

Middle3/BBT2/ModernF2/GhostAdv1/Walking3/Arrow2/2Men3

Two & a Half Men [10x03] Four Balls, Two Bats and One Mitt
TV.com - 7.5
RJG Rating- 7.5

Alan & Lyndsey think of having a threesome.

Although the first half seemed to be going towards another lame episode ,the second half single handedly saved the episode. The limited number of jokes managed to deliver and made a rare good episode for 2 men.

Arrow [1x02] Honor Thy Father
TV.com - 8.2
RJG Rating- 7

A businessman hires an assassin to take out Laurel.Oliver interferes.

The second episode of Arrow was interesting but not by much.Although it had some good scenes ,i felt they put a little too much of melodrama.Arrow needs some more work to be done ,but atleast its on the right track.

Walking Dead [3x03] Walk With Me
TV.com - 8.4
RJG Rating- 8

Andrea and Michonne meet an old 'friend' and a new community.
While this episode was great and yet another good episode for Season 3 ,i felt it was a bit dull ,mostly because this isnt a Rick-episode.But we finally get some excitement ,with the new character -The Governor.Walking Dead seems to be getting better and better.

Ghost Adventures [7x01] Central Unit Prison
TV.com - [unavailable]
RJG Rating- 7

The GA crew investigate the Central Unit Prison before its demolished.
One of the main issues with this lockdown was the fact that not much activity was reported in the first place. The reports did come from a parent of a prisoner ,but still i didnt feel it to be a strong reason.
The lockdown itself produced very vague findings. The second half got more interesting with Nick's strange behaviour and some impressive EMP readings

Modern Family [4x02] Schooled
TV.com - 5.9
RJG Rating- 7

Phil & Claire drop Hayley at her college.Cam & Mitch argues with a bully's parents.
Although it featured average comedy ,it was much more better than the first episode. The highlights were definitely Cam & Mitch's plot.

The Big Bang Theory [6x02] The Decoupling Fluctuation
TV.com - 8.2
RJG Rating- 7

Sheldon learns of a secret from Amy.
A decent episode from BBT ,although it wasnt that great.Although a big issue i had with the episode was that it hints at a breakup to be coming soon.Harold's sub plot was great though , and the comedy from the second half was great.

Middle [4x03] The Second Act
TV.com-
RJG Rating- 9

Sue mentors a freshman ,while Frankie loses her job

One of the most consistent comedy shows of recent times ,Middle delivers once again. The comedy was subtle and perfect and the cast did a great performance.

Insidious Sequel Confirmed

JTHJ & SOS open Great

Jab Tak Hai Jaan [to be declared as Blockbuster]

Yash Chopra's last movie struck a chord with the masses as it made a big impact in the box office. The movie made Rs.15cr. on Day 1 (a strong collection considering it was Diwali). The movie then went on to make Rs.81cr in its first week. But the movie is a BIG hit overseas and has reportedly made Rs.26cr overseas. With the passing of Balasaheb Thacker
ay,the movie faced a steep fall in its collections on Saturday & Sunday.
JTHJ has been a hit among the critics with many praising Yash Chopra & SRK ,but they also addressed that the story was quite poor.

As a SRK fan myself ,i was sorely disappointed with JTHJ .But its definitely worth a watch.
review-Jab Tak Hai Jaan [55] http://bit.ly/jthj12RJG
[Watch It]

Son Of Sardaar [to be declared as Hit]

Ajay Devgn's new movie too managed to make cash at the box office even though it faced heavy competition with SRK's Jab Tak Hai Jaan.Domestically SOS has made Rs.64cr. in its first week but with Balasaheb's death ,SOS too faced steep falls in its business in Mumbai.

[Miss it]

Twilight finale makes a fantastic opening.

1-With the final chapter of Twilight ,Breaking Dawn Episode 2, made a opening weekend debut of $141.3million.This is the 8th biggest opening of all time. The final movie hasnt been getting great reviews but its said to be the best of the Twilight series. The movie has a rotten rating of 49%.The movie has already made $199million overseas, making its first
week worldwide total $340million.

2-Skyfall fell ,as expected, to #2 but made a strong collection of $41.5million.Skyfall has made $669.2million worldwide and is now the top grossing James Bond movie of all time.

3-Lincoln made a small but great start at the box office with $21million.Considering it faced direct competition with action thrillers like Skyfall & Twilight 5 ,this is a great collection from the Abraham Lincoln biopic. The movie has been garnering excellent reviews with many praising Daniel Day Lewis brilliant portrayal. The movie is rated at 90%.

4-Wreck It Ralph made $18million to bring its 3 week domestic collection to $121.4million.The animated movie will be facing competition from the new animated movie Rise of the guardians ,this week ,but with strong reviews ,Ralph just might hold strong for a couple more weeks.

5-Flight came at #5 with just $8.6million.The movie has made $61million from its $31million budget from just the domestic collections.

From India, the Shahrukh-Yash Chopra romantic movie,Jab Tak Hai Jaan, made $1.2million and came at #10 at the US box office.

With strong debuts by Twilight & Lincoln and the consistent collections from Skyfall ,this week is the 6th highest grossing week of all time. (the highest is Dec-25-09,with Avatar #1)

This week we have a fresh batch of multiple releases. But the RJG pick of the week is:-
Life of Pi
Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger,Hulk,Brokeback Mountain) directs this movie which is based on a book of the same name. The movie is about the connection between a tiger and a young man who are the only survivors of a shipwreck and are now abandoned at sea.The movie opened to fantastic reviews earlier in the film festivals. The cinematography and direction has been highly praised. The movie has an initial review of 95%

The other movies releasing this week are:-
Red Dawn -The cast is a bunch of young stars led by Chris Hemsworth (Thor) ,Josh Hutcherson ,Isabel Lucas,Adrianne P.The movie is about an American city coming under attack by a foreign country. As the residents are imprisoned ,a group of youngsters fight back. The movie has not been getting good reviews and is currently rated at 27%.Red Dawn looks like it will open with the highest total among the new releases.

Rise of the Guardians- This animated movie is a Christmas oriented movie and is about a clash between the Guardians & an evil spirit.Currently rated at 71% the movie will make a nice opening.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

[an Epic conclusion ,bound to leave you speechless in awe]

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
IMDB- 8.8 (Top 250 - #30)
Rottentomatoes- 87%
RJG Rating- 100

8 years after Harvey Dent's death and Batman's disappearance ,a new evil ,in the form of Bane arrives at Gotham.

Starring- Christian Bale ,Tom Hardy ,Anne Hathaway ,Joseph Gordon
Director- Christopher Nolan
Written -Christopher & Jonathan Nolan (Story -Christopher Nolan & David Goyer)
Music - Hans Zimmer
Cinematography -Wally Pfister

4 years after the raging success of The Dark Knight,Christopher Nolan is back to end what he started. In 2005 ,he started with Batman Begins ,a movie about the birth of a hero.In 2008 ,he returned with The Dark Knight ,a movie about the hero's life at its peak and his fall from grace. In 2012 ,with The Dark Knight Rises ,he has given that hero a finale that changes your perception of what a 'superhero movie' is.

Acting
Christian Bale knocks it out of the park.He gives his best performance as Batman in TDKR.Shining not only as Batman ,but also the man behind the mask,Bruce Wayne. With each Batman movie, he gives a certain shade to each ones personality. With TDKR ,he plays a very matured character .
Tom Hardy.Even though he has to stand in the enormous shadow cast by Heath Ledger's Joker(from TDK) ,Tom plays a powerful role as Bane. His very presence is enough to send a chill up your spine.Just amazing.Tom Hardy's Bane is ruthless and just pure evil. His eyes is the only means of communication (with the mask covering 75%of his face) and he fully utilises them to deliver his dialogues. He has made Bane into one of the best villains of all time.
Joseph Gordon as Blake is yet another character that you wont easily forget after watching TDKR.Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle gives one of her best performances and does an excellent job. These two have been the result of perfect casting and direction, since usually with such a strong leads as Bale & Hardy ,the supporting actors are easily pushed out .But in TDKR ,the strong supporting cast share many major scenes giving their characters importance.
Returning to their previous roles are Morgan Freeman ,Micheal Caine and Gary Oldman.Morgan & Gary shines while Caine's role was short compared to Begins & TDK.

Story
The Nolan Brothers have come up with yet another Batman movie that makes you think and enjoy at the same time. Its a dark story ,but its something that was completely appropriate for the final chapter on The Dark Knight series. The success of the story lies on how well the brothers have developed the characters. They have also given nods to the characters comic book roots, and people who have knowledge on the comic background of the characters will notice how much the Nolans have tried to bring on screen. The story is deep and takes the final movie to a more larger stage.Reconnecting with the first movie (Begins) gives a sense of completion to this saga of The Dark Knight. The dialogues were excellent but doesnt match upto those of Begins & TDK.

Direction
Having 'Nolan' in a movie ,has now become a trademark for movie quality .Christopher Nolan doesnt disappoint one bit. With all the anticipation and hype about TDKR it would have been easy to get messed up ,but Nolan delivers yet another movie that not lives upto the expectation but also gives a fond farewell to a character that has redefined the superhero genre of the current generation. With TDKR he displays his skill for bringing reality onto the screen. The movie is an epic conclusion ,an end to a series that has battled with themes such as Fear & Chaos, Right & Wrong. With TDKR ,Nolan connects the themes of Batman Begins to the resulting events of TDK ,giving the viewers a satisfying conclusion. The movie is Nolan's longest movie (165min) ,and this might take a toll on some ,but every minute of the movie is pure intensity and importance. With TDKR ,Nolan crosses the lines of a standard superhero movie. At times its hard to consider this as a superhero movie. That itself speaks volumes on Nolan's work.

The cinematography from Wally Pfister is just magnificent. The cities ,the desert ,the underground, the fights, the Bat ,wow! The scenes will leave you short of breath!
The music from Hans Zimmer is grand and haunting.Although it isnt as great as TDK ,its still amazing.
The action sequences are brilliantly choreographed and executed perfectly.

Overall ,TDKR is perfection, another feather on Nolan's cap.Its not only the best movie of the year ,without doubt, its also one of the best of all time.A must watch.Thankyou Mr.Nolan.

Iron Man 2 (2010)

[another over the top superhero movie]

Iron Man 2 (2010)
IMDB- 7.1
Rottentomatoes- 75%
RJG Rating- 40

Ivan Vanko vows to make the Stark family pay for what they did to his father.

Starring- Robert Downey Jr. ,Mickey Rourke ,Sam Rockwell
Direction- Jon Favreau

Jon Favreau returns to direct this sequel of the hit 2008 movie ,Ironman. The movie's events takes place just a couple of months after the ending of the first part.

In the acting department ,Robert steals the show once again.Although i felt his performance in the first movie was better.Anyways Robert is the life of the movie and any scene without him his lackluster.Mickey Rourke plays Whiplash/Ivan and is the primary villain. But he is just terrible. He gives an utterly drunken performance and his dialogues are barely heard through his sluggish delivery. As a villain he is a complete failure.Sam Rockwell plays a competitor of Tony Stark ,and he gives a good performance.Don Cheadle replaces Terence Howard as Rhodes.Terence had a done a great job in the first movie and his replacement was completely unnecessary. While Don is a good actor ,he fails to fill the shoes of Terence and ends up as another poor actor in this movie. The women ,Gwyneth & Scarlett dont have much to do.Scarlett has just one fight scene ,and the rest is of her walking here and there with a fake European accent.

The story for Iron Man 2 is ambitious and tries to include Starks alcoholic problems (which was a major story arc in the comics) ,but it turns out to be a stumbling block for the movie. The entire alcoholic event is wrapped up in one scene which makes it seem like a forced execution. The rest of the story is very poor. The villain,Whiplash is a poorly drawn up character and is pretty useless. The solution to Stark's problem was another easy escape for the writers.

Jon Favreau makes a mess of whatever he had managed to accomplish in the first Iron Man.He tries to force too much stuff into the film and this caused it to get bloated. The lighter side of Tony Stark makes way for a darker tale, which was very poorly inserted ,thanks to the underdeveloped characters.

Overall , die hard fans of the first Iron Man will probably like it ,but its a disappointment for others.

The Amazing Spiderman (2012)

[the best Spiderman movie yet]

The Amazing Spiderman (2012)
IMDB- 7.3
Rottentomatoes- 73%
RJG Rating- 90

Peter Parker ,a normal teenager gets his life turned upside down after a spider bites him.

Starring- Andrew Garfield,Emma Stone ,Rhys Ifans
Director -Mark Webb

The Amazing Spiderman is the reboot of the Spiderman series which was earlier directed by Sam Raimi & starred Tobey Maguire. The reboot however is of a completely different tone compared with the original.

Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spiderman is a HUGE improvement over the miscast Tobey from the earlier series.Andrew brings in some guts to his character and is more believable as Spiderman. He does an excellent job.Emma Stone as Gwen too is perfect. Her chemistry with Andrew is another boost for the movie. The villain ,The Lizard, played by Rhys Ifans is again a result of good casting.

The story for Spiderman is a tough job for a reboot.Everyone knows what happens and its been shown countless times in the previous series and in the various spiderman cartoons.Fortunately the writers ,bring about some change to the classic tale. The story is more darker and much more intense than the previous movies. On the downside ,it does leave some storylines open as it rushes towards the end. This might be for the sequels to continue open ,but it would have better if a proper explanation was given at the end.

Mark Webb as the new director totally rocked the movie. His take on the Spiderman tale definitely gives it a much needed freshness to the movie.Theres no cheesy lines or dull moments.Bringing a villain like the Lizard in the first movie itself could have been a disaster ,considering the realistic setting of the movie, but Mark skillfully manages to do it.Scenes with the Lizard were great thrillers.

The cinematography was excellent and captures some superb shots of Spiderman in all his web slinging glory. The visual effects on the Lizard was excellent but could have been better .The switch between first person camera in the web slinging scenes was experimented successfully.

Overall,Mark Webb has given Spiderman a much needed reboot. Its a great superhero movie.A must watch.

Person Of Interest [2x01] The Contingency
TV.com- 8.7
RJG Rating- 9

Reese starts his search for the abducted Finch.

And the shows back with the same intensity of the first season. The season premiere was excellent ,and the story was excellent.Jonathan Nolan (younger bro of Christopher Nolan) extends his brilliance to the show.

Middle [4x01-02] Last Whiff of Summer
TV.com- 8.5
RJG Rating- 10

The Heck family describes their summer.
Wow! The Middle once again delivers a sweet & hilarious episode. The whole cast did an excellent job with this one.The kids have grown up and their characters are more developed. The comedy & the family drama is blended to perfection.

Two & a Half Men [10x02] A Big Bag of Dog
TV.com - 8.2
RJG Rating- 3.5

Walden tries to suppress his feelings of getting rejected by Zoey.

Another dull episode by 2men.Totally boring and terrible. The highlight of the whole episode was probably the final joke with the dog ,but other than that this was just a complete waste of time.

Dexter [7x02] Sunshine and Frosty Swirl
TV.com- 8.5
RJG Rating- 7

Debra takes action against Dexter.
Ok,now we are back on track. After a lukewarm start to the season ,the show returns to life. But much of the story is still under wraps.Dexter has yet to face with the villain/villains of the season . Bbut the downsides of the episode was ...

<SPOILER ALERT>
...Debra restricting Dexter .Sure it isnt that bad ,but hes a serial killer ,we need more kills! As for the weird compu tech ,his character is still not clear.Just a freak or a truly dangerous killer.

How i met your Mother [8x02] The Pre-Nup
TV.com- 7.8
RJG Rating- 5

Barney considers a prenup.
Again an episode which has NOTHING to do with Ted's wife .The jokes were flat and the episode trudged along with no real comedy. Its time to end the show.

Iron Man (2008)

[fun and enjoyable superhero movie for all]

Iron Man (2008)
IMDB- 7.9
Rottentomatoes- 94%
RJG Rating- 90

After being kidnapped by a terrorist group ,Tony Stark vows to fight back .

Starring- Robert Downey Jr. ,Jeff Bridges ,Gwyneth Paltrow
Direction- Jon Favreau

Iron Man is a superhero based on the Marvel comic book hero of the same name.

Robert Downey plays the titular character and he simply rocks it!The entire movie is shouldered by the charm of Robert as Iron Man.From scene one to the finale its all Robert. He was born to play this role. But when you have such a powerful actor in the movie ,he just overshadows everyone else.Gwyneth is ok as Pepper Potts ,she tries her best in the role.Jeff Bridges as the ,Obadiah/Iron Monger , is passable.Terence Howard as Rhodes gives a good performance.

The story for IronMan is tightly knit and solid. It doesnt pull of many twists but it paints a good origin story ,followed up by a nice action packed tale. The main pillars of the story are the witty dialogues delivered by Robert (Ironman/Tony).But the story runs out of steam towards the end.

Direction from Jon ,is excellent. He does a great job bringing to screen the tale of Iron Man.What was once a risky move turned out to be a game changer movie for Marvel & Paramount studios.Jon manages to balance the seriousness with the fun, making the movie an enjoyable experience for all.

Bringing a comic superhero into Hollywood ,amongst other well established heroes was going to be a tough task, but no one could have predicted the kind of reaction it received. The audience and critics praised the movie and its star Robert Downey.More importantly it laid the foundation for the 2012 movie The Avengers.

Overall ,Ironman is a movie for everyone.Fun and action packed with a strong performance by Robert Downey.

OMG! Oh My God (2012)

[a thought provoking and hilarious movie]

OMG! Oh My God (2012)
IMDB- 8.5
RJG Rating- 100

Kanji ,a business man sues God for the destruction of his shop in an earthquake.

Starring- Paresh Rawal,Akshay Kumar
Director- Umesh Shukla

OMG is an adaptation of the Gujarati play Kanji Virudh (vs) Kanji, which is an adaptation of an Australian movie ,The Man Who Sued God.

Paresh Rawal is the star of the show.He plays Kanji to perfection and delivers both comical and emotional scenes brilliantly.Akshay Kumar as God ,is a supporting character to Kanji ,and he too delivers nicely.Mithun & Govind as the religious leaders were hilarious with their antics. The rest of the cast were all amazing in their roles.

The story is well crafted. Its a smooth run from start to finish and raises important points and thoughts that can really make an impact on the audience. Thanks to Paresh's excellent comic timing ,he carries out hard hitting points but still manages to make the audience laugh.Another plus point for the story was how delicately it treated the God character. The story itself mainly centers around Hinduism ,but its thoughts & ideas arent restricted to any one religion, but touches upon all.

Direction by Umesh is excellent.OMG blends a perfect mix of comedy-drama+starpower.It has an even pace and hasnt got a dull moment anywhere. The issues brought forward arent just put out to the the audience ,but are also given solutions and reasonable logic behind the solutions.

Overall ,OMG not only has an interesting concept but boasts of excellent performances and ideas that can really have an effect on our daily lives.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012)

[a grand disappointment]

Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012)
IMDB- 8.4
RJG Rating- 55

Akira,an upcoming reporter meets Samar ,a fearless soldier ,whose past she uncovers.

Starring- Shahrukh Khan ,Katrina Kaif ,Anushka Sharma
Director- Yash Chopra

In the first half we have SRK who plays a muscian/waiter ,a happy go lucky character.SRK is charming and plays the role very well.In the second half ,we get to see SRK in a more matured role ,a soldier in a bomb disposal squad.Once again he plays the role with utter ease.Katrina Kaif ,who plays Meera ,the daughter of a rich stockbroker.Katrina and SRK share a great chemistry and gets the first half going in a series of songs and romantic scenes. The real fire cracker of the movie was Anushka Sharma.Though both SRK and Katrina fail to deliver in the 3rd half of the movie (yes,3rd half, this movie is pretty long) ,Anushka maintains consistency and gives a solid performance throughout the duration of her role.SRK & Katrina's acting completely unravels in the proceedings of the 3rd half due to the bad screenplay.

The story for JTHJ was not only unnecessarily long but offers nothing new either.Although it tries to stay free of the usual cliches ,all the efforts crash land in the 3rd half. One of the drawbacks is, who Adithya Chopra (the writer) implies the villain of the movie is.Although im not revealing who it is ,its a baffling thought and a quite stupid idea.
The point where i lost all hope, was in the 3rd half where a twist changes the entire course of the movie. This is conveniently reversed half an hour later ,making you wonder why such a twist was even necessary.

Direction by Yash Chopra is average.I have seen him handle a far more complex story ,much more beautifully before. While he captures the beauty of all the exotic locations and brings romance back in grand fashion ,its no doubt that he messed up towards the end.He could have made JTHJ a fantastic romantic movie ,but by falling for the old hindi movie cliches ,he makes his last effort an average flick. The dialogues were not as great and sometimes it gets irritating.

The song overload in the first half was also a bit tiring.Ishq Shaava (Instrumental)+Ishq Shaava(song)+Heer+Saans, play in the gap of just 30min .But on the plus side ,none of the songs seem forced and are placed appropriately based on the story. The music video for all ,were fabulous. The music for JTHJ is above average.Rahman's music might not stand out ,but Gulzar's excellent lyrics make the songs very memorable.

Overall ,JTHJ is a failure ,because of its weak storyline and lack of thought process behind the film.Watch it once if you are a fan of either SRK-Yash-Anu-Kat.But dont expect anything great.

Skyfall (2012)

[one of the best spy movies ever]

Skyfall (2012)
IMDB- 8.1 (Top 250 #219)
RottenTomatoes- 91%
RJG Rating - 99

A mysterious person wrecks havoc across MI6 ,forcing Bond to return to service.

Starring- Daniel Craig ,Javier Bardem,Judi Dench
Director- Sam Mendes

Skyfall is the 3rd movie with Daniel Craig as James Bond. This is also the 23rd movie in the 50year old series James Bond.

Daniel once again nails it as Bond.He gives the character a very matured personality. With Skyfall ,Craig gives one of his best performances to date and proves that he is the best Bond. However the Bond girls fail to match upto the performances of Eva Green or Olga K from the previous 2 movies.Berenice gives a stunning role ,but it is a short role.Naomie too is pretty much sidelined throughout the movie and doesnt offer much.Judi Dench as 'M' gives a good performance. But the person who gives a tight competition to Daniel is Javier Bardem,as the villain Silva.Javier's performance will certainly go down as one of the James Bond series' best villains. What severely lacked in both Casino & Quantum was a strong villain and that is accomplished in Skyfall.Javier's entrance is almost at the halfway mark of the movie ,but once he enters ,he steals the show.Daniel isnt an actor who is easy to overshadow ,but Javier equals him.

The story is the best amongst the Daniel Craig-Bond movies.Unlike Quantum, it gives the story top priority and this gives Skyfall a very strong pillar to lean upon. But it stumbles in the end a bit ,but for the majority of the movie the story is first class. The way it digs deep into Bond's & M's past is neatly unfolded.

Sam Mendes gives Skyfall an intense makeover. He doesnt litter the movie with various action sequences ,like Quantum, but drives the movie with the performances of Daniel & Javier. The pacing of the movie is intense for the most part but it runs slow towards the end (Daniel reaching Skyfall).Mendes has said he drew inspiration from Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight for Skyfall and this can be clearly seen on screen. It helps Skyfall set the standard for future James Bond movies (a tough task to follow through).

The various action sequences are top notch ,the opening chase sequence will keep you at the edge of your seat! The cinematography is another plus point. The beauty of the various locations are caught on screen and will definitely catch your breath. The climax is a beautifully shot sequence too.

Another tradition of a James Bond movie is the theme song & the accompanying credits video. All i can say is - Wow!
I was completely floored by the song when i first heard it ,but seeing how it plays out in the movie was just amazing! The video is just fabulous and is again a series high for James Bond.

The movie was hyped before release ,saying its the Best Bond movie of all time, now after seeing Skyfall ,i completely disagree ,not only is it the best Bond movie ,its the best spy/agent movie of all time. Its a must watch!
