4 New Releases Battle for top spot.TDKR #7 in the domestic & worldwide lists.

#1 & #2 -Jake Gyllenhaal starrer, End Of Watch ,tied with Jennifer Lawrence starrer ,House at the End of the Road ,with both earning $13million.
End of Watch is a cop-drama-thriller ,written & directed by Training Day writer ,David Ayer.Even though its a low budget movie ($7million) ,the opening collection is below average for a movie of its sort.EOW has been getting good reviews praising its lead actors ,Jake Gyllenhaal & Micheal Pena. The movie is currently rated at 85%.
House at the End of the Road ,like EOW is a low budget movie ($10million) but still its debut is below expectations. But the horror movie has been getting very poor reviews ,with many complaining its a very predictable movie with not much thrills nor horror. The movie is rated 13%.

#3-
Coming very close to the top spot was ,Trouble with the Curve ,making $12.7million.The baseball themed movie , marks the return of Clint Eastwood to an acting role (2009's Gran Torino was his previous starring role). The movie also has Amy Adams & Justin Timberlake.Just like the top 2 movies ,TWTC too has a below average debut. The movie has been getting average reviews ,with many saying Clint Eastwood & Amy Adams' performances are the highlights of this predictable story. The movie is currently rated at 52%.

#4
-Finding Nemo 3D ,made to #4 with $9.4million.This makes Finding Nemo the lowest grossing movie in the recent set of 3D converted animated movies.

#5
-Resident Evil Retribution crashed from its top spot last week ,earning just $6.7million this week.Such a steep fall can be credited to the movies poor reviews and general lack of interest from the audience for the Resident series. The movie has made $33million domestically ,but has already grossed thrice its domestic gross overseas ,$103million ,bringing its worldwide total to $136million.

The 4th new release of the week ,Dredd , bombed at the box office ,making just $6.3million,coming at #6.The $50million movie is set to be a big disappointment. The reviews for Dredd has been highly positive .Many praised its violence & special effects and has a rating of 77%.
The critically praised movie,The Master made $5million in its 2nd week. The movie is slowly expanding to more theaters each week.Praised for its acting, direction and story ,the movie has a rating of 86%.

On its 10th week ,TDKR made $1.2million.So far it has made $$443million domestically ,ranking it at #7 in the domestic charts ,overtaking Shrek 2.The next target, for TDKR in the domestic list is Star Wars ,$460million.But it seems TDKR wont be rising on the domestic charts any more.
With $623million collection overseas,TDKR has made $1.066billion worldwide. This puts it #7 in the all time lists ,overtaking PiratesOTC 2.The next target for TDKR is Lord Of The Rings3 ,$1.119billion.Again,this seems to be another long shot for TDKR.

This week, we have 4 more interesting movies.Looper,Hotel Transylvania,Perfect Pitch & Wont Back Down.
My recommendation for the week is Looper. The action thriller has been getting rave reviews. Its rated currently at 92%.The mind bending tale stars Joseph Gordon & Bruce Willis.
Hotel Transylvania is an animated movie ,starring Adam Sandler.the movie failed to impress critics and will be more of a kids attraction.
Perfect Pitch stars Anna Kendrick and is about a college singing competition.
Wont Back Down stars 2 top actresses ,Maggie Gyllenhaal & Viola Davis and is about two mothers raising the standards of education at their local school.

Superbad (2007)

[one of the best tales of growing up]

Superbad (2007)
IMDB- 7.7
Rottentomatoes- 88%
RJG Rating- 95

Seth & Evan ,best friends since childhood ,get a chance to have a great party before they move to separate colleges.

Starring- Jonah Hill,Micheal Cera
Director- Greg Mottola

Superbad is a movie about friendship and high school life.Just as its name ,its super bad (in a positive aspect) in terms of its jokes and situations.

All the actors have done a great job. They all hold a particular charm and take forward the movie without lose of pace.Micheal Cera & Jonah Hill are the lead actors, and they do an excellent job.Christoph Mintz as Fogell/McLovin ,Seth Rogen & Jon Hader as the two cops too give amazing supporting roles.

The story of Superbad takes place within a day,but its packed with humour and draws a neat picture of friendship.Coming from Judd Apatow ,you can be sure its not going to be a family movie. The jokes are the filthy types but they are all nicely blended into the plot.

Greg Mottola's direction is superb. The movie runs in a nice even pace and all the jokes are hilarious. It isnt over the top and lets the story and performances take the center stage. The theme of friendship tackled in Superbad might not be new ,but its the way its handled that makes the movie memorable.Even years later ,Superbad has set a standard for movies of this genre.

Overall,Superbad might not be for everyone ,but its a must watch movie.

The Pirates! Band of Misfits (2012)

[a lovable little movie]

The Pirates! Band of Misfits (2012)
IMDB- 6.8
Rottentomatoes- 86%
RJG Rating- 80

Captain Pirate sets out for an adventure in search of treasure that could fetch him his life long wish.

Starring- Hugh Grant,Martin Freeman,David Tennant
Director- Peter Lord

Pirates is a claymation movie created by the makers of the hit Wallace & Gromit.

Animation is excellent and is the perfect choice for the movie. But it could have set up on a larger scale for such an adventurous movie. The animation also felt a bit rough and not as smooth as expected.

The story is what can usually be expected from a claymation movie. Its a bit weird but manages to deliver loads of fun.The story wasnt as clever or outstanding but it was funny. The main highlight were the brilliant set of characters. The story has its own set of twists and turns that make PiratesBOM an enjoyable movie.

Peter Lord, has done a great job in building up this movie. Its pace is even and the movie doesnt falter much. The movie is fun and adventurous from start to finish.

Overall ,Pirates is be a welcome change from the usual type of animated movies released this year. And thanks to its great characters its great fun.

Short News from the Les Miserables ,Guardians and more

Short News from the Entertainment World.

1-A small news from the literary world.Stephen King will release the sequel to his famous novel,The Shining ,on September 24 2013.The sequel is titled Doctor Sleep.Heres a synopsis for the novel:

"The story follows Danny Torrance, who is now 44-years old and living in upstate New York. Danny is a hospice worker who uses his powers to help ill patients to
pass away without pain. Unfortunately, he runs afoul of a gang of wandering psychic vampires (called The Tribe) who feed on people's energy."

The Shining was written by King in 1977 and was later adapted by Stanley Kuberick for his movie -The Shining (1980),with Jack Nicholson playing the lead character ,Jack Torrance.

2-December 2012 will be a tight season for all the movies. The competition is starting to get so intense that movies are shifting dates.
The Great Gatsby(directed by Baz Luhrmann ,and starring Leonardo DiCaprio) was shifted from its Christmas date, all the way to Summer 2013.
Ang Lee's ,much awaited movie ,Life of Pi was pulled back from its December date, to a November 21 release date.
The latest date change is that of Tom Hooper's ,star studded ,Les Miserables. The movie which was previously set to open on December 14th will open on Christmas day (25th) with Quentin's Django Unchained. This makes Peter Jackson's The Hobbit ,the sole release on December 14th.

Batman & Robin (1997)

[one of the worst movies in superhero history]

Batman & Robin (1997)
IMDB- 3.6
Rottentomatoes- 12
RJG Rating- 10

Mr.Freeze & Poison Ivy join hands to destroy the city of Gotham. Can the superhero duo ,Batman & Robin stop them in time?

Starring- George Clooney,Chris O'Donnell,Arnold Schwarzenegger
Director- Joel Schumacher

Joel Schumacher returns to the directors chair for the 4th part of the Batman series.Due to conflicts with Val Kilmer ,George Clooney replaced Kilmer as Batman.

George Clooney as Batman is a miscast.Clooney takes the role for granted. As Bruce he fails to display the charm or the loneliness of the character and also fails to give Batman the gritty nature.Chris O Donnel as Robin is unbearable.Arnold as Mr.Freeze adds to the list of troubles. His one liners and wooden performance are horrible.Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy is even more worse than Arnold.

The story for Batman&Robin is just terrible. Its a sort of parody that just never ends. The dialogs are cheesy and over the top.It doesnt have a proper start and leads to a brainless plot and ends with even more mindnumbing stupidity.

Joel Schumacher displays his worst side with this movie. Its hard to believe that a person could take such a superhero to such a level of disgrace.Joel's mind is split as to whether he wants more of comedy or drama. So we have lame jokes as batman bidding with a "Batcard"(??!!) and boring scenes of Alfred on his deathbed.
Also Joel's style of direction takes Batman into a ridiculous low point.Nipples on the batsuit & closeups of butts is just annoying. On top of this we have ridiculous bat gadgets making sudden appearances ,reminding one of the outdated 60's Batman TV series.

There was an overload of characters in this movie. And very poor origin stories for them all.The character of Bat Girl wasnt even necessary and it just caused for a bunch of unwanted scenes. The action scenes were all very poor. And it was just too evident that the set pieces used were miniature toys.

Batman & Robin was a hit but was universally panned. The negative response for the movie was so strong that Warner Bros. put an end to the Batman series and stopped all future plans. It was so bad that even the director and the cast, later admitted that Batman & Robin was a mistake.

Overall ,Batman & Robin is a big waste of time. Its outdated and cliched and just plain ridiculous.
