Justice League Development

After the mega success of Avengers ,Warner Bros. are increasing their efforts to bring about a Justice League movie.Latest developments has them hiring Will Beall (writer of Gangster Squad) as a writer for the proposed movie.

Unlike Avengers which had 5 movies before it ,the proposed Justice League movie will have the daunting task of bringing all the superheroes up from scratch.

Justice League is a union of superheroes from the DC universe ,consisting mainly of SuperMan ,Batman,Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern.Even though Warner Bros. had already started developments for a JL movie ,the failure of the 2010 Green Lantern movie set them back.

Mirror Mirror (2012)

[weird retelling of the story of Snow White]

Mirror Mirror (2012)
IMDB- 5.7
Rotten tomatoes- 50
RJG Rating- 55

Snow White ,a princess ,is kept locked away by her evil step mother.

Starring- Lily Collins, Julia Roberts ,Armie Hammer
Director- Tarsem Singh

Fairy tales that were once brought to us by Disney's animation, with all its colourfulness and cheer, is going through a drastic makeover in the present.Last year we had a dark remake of Red Riding Hood, this year theres a grim reboot of Snow White (Snow White & The Huntsman). In the midst of all this comes Mirror Mirror ,which is a remake on Snow White.

Before watching Mirror Mirror, you must know that its not for everyone. Its wierd, wacky and just strange. Its a movie that seems to be made scene for scene from an animated movie. Its that fantastical.Initially the movie is so out of this world that you may just want to stop watching it,but the more you see, the more accustomed you get with the movie's nature.

Lily Collins & Julia Roberts are the main actors in the movie.Though Julia Roberts goes over the top most of the time ,Lily Collins manages to smile her way through the whole duration of the movie.Armie Hammer gives an ok performance. The supporting cast were all okay.

Story is the same old Snow White story ,but its still very different. At times its the exact version but towards the end its completely different.

Tarsem ,known for his visual looks of his movies (such as Immortals) ,shows off his colourful setting for Mirror Mirror. The movie seems to have popped right out of a fairy tale book.At times its wierd ,but yet the movie manages to grow on you.Even though the movie is a bit grim ,its presented quite comically.

Overall ,the movie isnt for the serious audience or those who expect to see the word for word remake of the fairy tale.Mirror Mirror can be enjoyed by kids and for those who love wacky movies.

Conan the Barbarian (2011)

[mindless action movie]

Conan the Barbarian (2011)
IMDB- 5.2
Rotten tomatoes- 23
RJG Rating- 30

Conan ,a barbarian ,seeks vengence against a mighty ruler.

Starring- Jason Momoa,Rachel Nichols,Stephen Lang,Rose McGowan
Director- Marcus Nispel

Conan is the reboot of the 1982 movie of the same name which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Jason Momoa takes up the role of Conan. He is fit for the role ,all muscle & very less acting. The movie being a hack and slash movie theres not much need for any acting. Its all just glares and grunts and blood spurting out at the slightest touch. The supporting cast arent too great either.Rose McGowan's over acting is torturous.

Story is straight forward ,but its also filled with cliches of all kinds. Its highly predictable and any advances to bring a twist fails badly. The original story of Conan has its roots in magic ,monsters and so on.The movie spends most its time showing battles and sword fights ,but towards the end the writers seemed to have remembered that they forgot to add any magic or monsters. And so we have one or two scenes that involve Conan fighting monsters and sorcery, which uptill then didnt seem to exist.

Direction was very poor. The pace of the movie is slow and it rarely gets exciting. The running time of the movie seemed too long. And the overdose of fighting scenes can get boring towards the end.

Overall, this movie is strictly for action lovers but even they would find this boring.

MTV Movie Awards 2012

I wasnt planning to post this here ,since in my eyes Mtv Movie awards is just a waste of an awards show.Anyways this year was no different, the show sucked.Atleast Twilight didnt dominate all the awards. One thing that was very evident ,was that the new heartthrob of the MTV voters is definitely ,Hunger Games.

Russel Brand ,the host, was the worst host ive ever seen. Its ok to drop some crude humour once in a while, but Russel's entire hosting revolved around dick jokes.

The only highlights of the entire show was the jaw dropping presentation of the new trailer for Dark Knight Rises.Christian Bale,Gary Oldman,Joseph Gordon & Nolan came up on stage and did a quick intro. It got a bit emotional up there when Bale got a bit choked up after seeing Heath Ledger in a montage of Batman begins & Dark Knight.

Another highlight was Johnny Depp showcasing his musical side.

Out of all the presenters ,Emma Stone was the best.As for the worst presenter it was definitely Kristen Stewart who failed to deliver some jokes and again made an awkward speech when she won for Best Kiss.

Nolan's Future Projects

Christopher Nolan ,in a recent interview cleared up some rumors about his next project after The Dark Knight Rises.

First off ,the Howard Hughes project is cancelled.Nolan said that this was mainly because he was able to express his ideas through Bruce Wayne rather than Howard Hughes

"Luckily I managed to find another wealthy, quirky character who's orphaned at a young age," said Nolan.

But the major news was that Nolan wants to direct a James Bond movie.Nolan has said James Bond movies have influenced his work in movies such as Batman Begins and Inception ,and he would like to direct a movie when the time is right.

"It would have to be the right situation and the right time in their cycle of things,"

Rowdy Rathore (2012)

[Action Packed Entertainer ]

Rowdy Rathore (2012)
IMDB- 6.8
RJGrating- 75

Shiva, a petty theif, has his life turned around when he finds a little girl.

Starring- Akshay Kumar
Director- Prabhudeva

Rowdy Rathore is Prabhudeva's second Hindi movie as director after 2009's Wanted. The movie is a remake of Telungu movie Vikramarkudu.

Akshay plays a double role in the movie. One as Shiva ,the thief and the other as Rathore ,the cop.Even though the thief role is just like the usual roles Akshay plays in all his recent movie ,its his role as Rathore that steals the show.Akshay being an action hero is completely at ease in this movie.Sonakshi is just eye candy and doesnt do much. The supporting cast too arent of much help either. The kid has only one real role that is too look cute and sad at all times.

The story isnt something unheard of.Its the usual double role story mixed with vengeance for justice.

Prabhudeva once again shows off his style through Rowdy Rathore as he did for Wanted. The movie's main highlight are its action scenes. The first half is not very great ,it trudges along with a couple of songs and some comedy.Added to this is the confusing backstory. But luckily the second half clears up the backstory and increases the intensity of the action scenes. The movie has just the right amount of drama and unlike movies that follow the improbable fights + slapstick comedy routine (Dabangg ,Ready) ,Rowdy has just the right amount of both ,like Wanted.

While the comedy is just passable its the action scenes that provide the most excitement. The dialogues are noteworthy especially in the second half.Punchlines dished out by Akshay as Rathore are fun.The comedy is at its best towards the end.

Overall,Rowdy Rathore is for fans of Akshay , and for those who just want to see some good masala entertainment.
