Amazing Spiderman Arrives

The Amazing Spiderman racked up a decent $140 million in its 6 day opening. Its opening weekend collection was $65million.Meanwhile it made $201million in its foreign collections to bring its total tally to $341million worldwide.Unfortunately its expected that Spiderman might not hold up very long considering the mixed reviews its been getting, although it managed to get 73% at RottenTomatoes.

Ted stood strong and made $32million in its 2nd week.
Brave made $20million and brought its domestic collection to $174million.Its expected to also cross the $200million safely and become Pixar's 10th movie to make the milestone.Brave also helped Disney to become the first studio of 2012 to make a domestic collection of a billion dollars.

Ice Age 4 opens this week (July 13) ,and is expected to make a huge opening. It has already made a foreign collection of $198million.

Lockout (2012)

[cheesy dialogues and plenty of overacting]

Lockout (2012)
IMDB- 6.1
Rottentomatoes- 36
RJG Ratings- 35

A wrongly convicted soldier is sent to MS One ,a prison in space.

Starring- Guy Pearce, Maggie Grace
Director- James Mather,Stephen St. Leger

Lockout's main star is Guy Pearce ,but he disappoints heavily.Guy is a great actor but unfortunately he goes overboard in Lockout. He takes the "no care" attitude over the top thus ruining many interesting scenes.Maggie Grace is the exact opposite. Her acting is half baked and poor. The two have not much chemistry either.

Lockout has an interesting concept but the story falls flat at several places. The writers seem to have bitten off more than they could chew. There are multiple conspiracies ,a riot in progress ,space adventure and even a hostage situation. And all these are poorly linked to each other.
The dialogues are all poorly written. The cheesy lines are so horrible that it sounds like it came from an 80's era movie.

Direction is generally poor. The structuring of the story is very weak and is filled with plotholes.Visual effects used in the movie is just average, and many are poorly used.On a positive note ,the movie isnt dull ,thanks to some action scenes.

Overall ,Lockout requires you to switch off your brains to enjoy this movie. Its just a timepass movie.

Anger Management [1x03]

Anger Management [1x03] Charlie Tries Sleep Deprivation
TV com Rating- 6.4
RJG Rating- 7.5

Charlie tries a new method of treating his patients, through sleep deprivation.

Well,AM is definitely improving,it had a strong first half but the second half wasnt as engaging. The comedy seems forced out of the characters. So far the show is still new and a couple more will define AM's stability.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)

[the worst POTC movie yet]

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)
IMDB- 6.6
Rottentomatoes- 34
RJG Ratings- 15

Jack Sparrow, joins with Barbossa to find the fountain of youth.

Starring- Johnny Depp,Geoffrey Rush,Penélope Cruz,Ian McShane
Director- Rob Marshall

Stranger Tides is not an exact continuation of the events of the previous POTC trilogy, its more of a fresh start for Jack Sparrow with new supporting casts. The movie was one of the most anticipated movies of 2011 but unfortunately it failed to gain critical acclaim like those for the previous 3.

Johnny Depp returns once again as the iconic Jack Sparrow. Its safe to say that hes the only highlight of this movie. But yet the movie's lack of proper story takes a heavy toll on Jack Sparrow. So in Stranger Tides ,we have Jack Sparrow running around and having sword fights but thats as far as we get to the old Jack Sparrow. The dull story manages to make the most exciting character seem dull.Somehow as each movie progresses ,Jack Sparrow has become younger and less menacing compared to the Curse of the Black Pearl (POTC 1).The supporting cast includes Penelope Cruz & Geoffrey Rush. While Geoffrey (Barbossa) gives an ok performance,Penelope disappoints.

Before watching Stranger Tides ,i had considered Worlds End(POTC 3) to be the worst POTC movie. But upon watching this movie,i was much more appreciative of Worlds End.There is absolutely no decent story in Stranger Tides. Its an awful collage of previous Pirates movies mixed together with cliches and lazy writing. The story brings up one dimensional characters and useless twists.

Direction by Rob Marshall is completely a waste.Known for his musical movies such as Chicago,Memoirs of a Geisha ,Rob Marshall is out of place in an action movie such as that of the Pirates series. The 2hr movie is stretched to such a point that the viewers feel tortured for seeing this monstrosity. The movie was one of the most dullest and boring movies of 2011.

On release Pirates failed to win the audience like before and resulted in poor domestic collection compared to the other Pirate movies. But the movie was a giant hit overseas and earned more than thrice the domestic collection .This made POTC4 the second movie, after POTC2 (Dead Man's Chest) ,in the POTC series to enter the Billion Dollar league.

Overall, this is one of the worst & boring movies of all time.Miss at all costs.

Ratatouille (2007)

[a delicious feast of a movie]

Ratatouille (2007)
IMDB- 8.1 (Top 250: #208)
RottenTomatoes- 96
RJG Rating- 100

Remy ,a rat and Linguini ,a garbage boy start preparing dishes at a famous restaurant in Paris.

Starring- Patton Oswalt ,Lou Romano ,Ian Holm
Director- Brad Bird

Ratatouille was Pixar's 8th movie and second movie to be directed by Brad Bird.Coincidentally its the second Pixar movie to feature humans in major roles after Brad's Incredibles.

After the critically disappointing Cars (considering Pixar standards),most thought Pixar had finally broken its legendary run.But it was not to be,with Ratatouille,Pixar bounced back with full force.

Animation has been improving with each Pixar movie, and Ratatouille isnt any different.Being a movie about cooking and beauty of food,Pixar doesn make any compromises.Everything is just perfect. The colourful yet simplistic designs is a feast for the eyes. The animation and designs of both Remy & Linguini and the supporting characters are brilliant.

As usual Pixar delivers another touching movie with really great characters. The story keeps flowing, leaving the audience wanting more.Ratatouille has one of the most memorable scenes ive ever seen (Anton Ego having a flashback). The scene barely lasts 15sec but it will definitely melt your hearts.Such scenes define Pixar's quality not only in animation but also in great story telling.
The movie doesn take its story lightly as Cars did,it caters to people of all ages.

Brad's direction is perfect. The movie isnt action packed like Incredibles ,but its more about capturing the beauty in cooking ,which hes done excellently.Another factor which is quite noticeable is the music composed by Michael Giacchino.Just like the movie its beautiful and will stick inside your head for days.

On release,Ratatouille garnered mass critical acclaim and was well praised in France (where the movie takes place).

Overall Ratatouille is a classical movie ,a must watch.
