The Cabin in the Woods (2012)

[just another teenage horror flick ? Nope]

The Cabin in the Woods (2012)
IMDB- 7.3
Rottentomatoes- 91%
RJG Rating- 95

5 teenagers go to a cabin belonging to a friend in a remote forest ,not knowing a group of people have been lying in wait for them.

Starring - Kristen Connolly,Chris Hemsworth,Anna Hutchison,Fran Kranz
Director - Drew Goddard

Being a teenage horror flick ,you cant really expect much good performances ,but the cast of Cabin ITW are really awesome. Each and everyone are likeable and this makes the whole experience of watching the movie more engaging. No one overshadows the other ,but i really liked Fran Kranz, who played the stoner Marty.

Story, its really awesome. While the movie might seem so obvious when watching its trailer or a synopsis ,you really have no idea where the story is leading you into. Its the type that makes you keep wondering 'whats going on' for majority of the movie ,and judging from the way it unfolds ,its just top notch writing. The story brings new life into this genre of horror/slasher movies. You might think you know ,but you dont.
Another plus point are the well developed characters.Although they play out to be cliched characters from horror movies ,they manage to connect with the audience.

Drew Goddard ,does an amazing job.Blending comedy into a horror movie is a tough task ,which Drew has successfully accomplished. On top of that ,the movie is a fresh new concept that never dulls at any moment. The pace of the movie is even, and considering the amount & extend of story thats been put in ,the movie never feels stretched.

Overall, dont keep this movie aside just because you think its just another slasher/cliched horror movie ,because its certainly not.Its a decent blend of horror-comedy with an excellent story.Must Watch!

Brave (2012)

[not upto Pixar standards in story telling]

Brave (2012)
IMDB- 7.4
RottenTomatoes- 78%
RJG Rating-65

Animation of Brave is outright brilliant. This is one sector that Pixar has yet to fail in.The beautiful scenery and characters will definitely be a feast to the eyes.

But Brave falters in every other department. Its story ,which is without doubt a well knit fantasy tale, will mainly attract only the kids.Brave doesnt have much room for story and holds onto just one direct tale ,without any other sub plots. As for this one direct story ,its extremely kiddish in its concept, something which Pixar usually doesnt do.On top of that ,the story doesnt hold many twists ,and follows a predictable route.
But the story has its plus sides too.Compared to most other movies of the same genre ,Brave does promote some great family values and doesnt stumble into much of cliches

Direction is average.Mark Andrews ,Pixar's new member, tries his best but cant match the standards set up by the previous Pixar directors.Ofcourse comparing Brave to the the classics of animation is unfair.Brave is good movie but isnt great. It tries to keep both adults and kids happy but it just doesnt blend the story right.

Overall ,Brave may have not been the fabulous return Pixar hoped for after the terrible Cars 2 ,but its a one time watch for the adults and will keep the kids happy.

The Big Bang Theory [6x01]

The Big Bang Theory [6x01] The Date Night Variable
TV.com Rating- 8.2
RJG rating-7

Sheldon invites Raj on his and Amy's anniversary date.

The first half wasnt too interesting ,but Raj & Howard delivered in the second half.Sheldon's jokes are coming up short since most are just repetitions.Leonard had little to do in the episode.Thankfully Raj & Howard's stories lifted the show.

Dexter [7x01]

Dexter [7x01] Are you.....?
TV.com rating- 8.6
RJG rating- 6

This sesons premiere for Dexter is definetely one of the most awaited one for fans. After Season 4's deadly climax ,Season 6's was just brilliant and certainly had put the audience intoa long wait for Season 7.
Unfortunately ,episode 1 was not upto standards. For the first time ,i felt as if they have finally reached a point where the writers must end the show before it just got horrible.Season 6 had left multiple storylines open for Season 7 ,but instead of continuing on them ,Episode 1 added some more to the wagon and completely brushed aside one (Debra's crush on Dexter)

All this might be too early to say about this season ,but as far as my rating for Episode 1 ,ill have to say it was definetely the weakest among any season openers.
The cliffhanger at the end was awesome ,but it was the same as of last seasons.Hope Dexter pulls off some amazing twists and saves this season before its all too late.

Two And A Half Men [10x01]

Two And A Half Men [10x01] I Changed My Mind About The Milk
TV com Rating-7.6
RJG Rating- 4.5

2 and a half men returns with yet another season ,and this one like the last 3 seasons are sure to be as dull as ever. The previous season was downright horrible ,and was the worst in the series run ,but Season 10 is back and ready as ever.
Episode 1 was dull and boring. Its a rehash of the old seasons and doesnt have anything funny at hand. The writers are happy with the 2 Men and are not even trying to include the kid ('the half').After years of trying to make Jon's character ,Alan ,into a gay person ,they have finally done it.
The very premise of Season 10 is just dull and lacks energy.

How I Met Your Mother [8x01]

How I Met Your Mother [8x01] Farhampton
TV.com rating-8.4
RJG rating-6

The premiere of Season 8 is a much awaited one considering the gigantic cliffhanger Season 7 had left. But the whole episode felt pretty stretched. The match of Robin & Barney is a poor one and the writers have made the story of 'how ted met his wife' secondary to ;how barney married robin'.The episode was generally poor ,and all the cast were out of form. The jokes were missing and the drama seemed to be pulling down the whole episode vibe. The only highlight was the teaser appearance of Ted's wife (which the writers add randomly to the end of some episodes to generate interest for the next one).

The Walking Dead [3x01]

The Walking Dead [3x01] Seed
TV.com rating- 8.7
RJG rating-7.5

After a very very disappointing Season 2 ,Walking Dead is back with yet another season.Theres just one word to describe Episode 1,and thats , bloody. Its kill kill kill from start to finish.Although its something the haters of the show wanted ,i felt there was no emotion behind the story.Lori is still the most irritating character ,while Carl is fortunately kept quiet throughout the episode.Rick is more deadly and thats something to be appreciated about.Hope to see much more intensity in the following episodes.

V for Vendetta (2006)

[a brilliant and thought provoking movie]

V for Vendetta (2006)
IMDB- 8.8 (Top 250 - #166)
Rottentomatoes- 73%
RJG Rating- 100

A terrorist by the name of V,threatens to bring down the dictatorship rule of Britain.

Starring- Hugo Weaving,Natalie Portman
Director- James McTeigue

Adapted from Alan Moore's graphic novel ,V for Vendetta was directed James McTeigue and written for the big screen by the Wachowski Bros. (Matrix Trilogy).

The main character of the movie is V ,but being a masked character from the start to the end ,its hard to judge Hugo Weaving's acting. But Hugo's dialogue presentation is top notch. He ranges his voice perfectly from light hearted to terrifying. But this doesnt mean the movie falls back on its acting department. With the main lead under a mask,Natalie Portman as Evey is a strong acting role.Natalie is just superb in the role and she delivers one of her best acting performances of her career. The supporting cast doesnt disappoint either, all give very good performances.

V for Vendetta can be easily mistaken for an all out action movie on the outside but its clearly much more that. The story of VFV is a strong pillar on which it stands. The various ideologies presented by the lead characters , the stories of various individuals , and ofcourse V's grand plan are all blended in a manner that wont confuse or bore the audience.
The dialogues also are a very important factor for the movie. The hard hitting dialogues from V will definitely send a chill up your spine.

Direction by debutant, James McTeigue ,is excellent. The pacing of the movie is perfect and he nicely blends the action scenes with the drama ones making the movie a satisfying feature for all.Every scene of VFV has a particular message to convey and all hit the bulls eye.James had previously worked on the Matrix Trilogy, and considering the Wachowski's have written the screenplay ,theres the particular tone that is similar with The Matrix.

The action scenes from VFV is just excellent. The climax fighting sequence is just jaw dropping! The special effects have been used moderately and not been overdone.

On release VFV ,was a moderate success.Alan Moore ,the writer distanced himself from the movie as he did for other movie adaptations of his comics (From Hell,League of Extraordinary Gentlemen ,and later on Watchmen). But the movie over time achieved cult status and made the Guy Fawkes mask (the one V wears) infamous for issues that related to peoples freedom of speech etc.

Overall ,V for Vendetta is a great movie ,a must watch.
