Wanderlust (2012)

[interesting concept gone wasted]

Wanderlust (2012)
IMDB- 5.7
RottenTomatoes- 60
RJG Rating- 50

After struggling to live in New York ,a couple move into Elysium ,a rural commune.

Starring- Paul Rudd,Jennifer Aniston,Justin Theroux,Malin Akerman
Director- David Wain

Wanderlust is about a couple who move into a community, called Elysium. Elysium doesnt depend on the modern world. It instead uses home-made stuff , and the group live together in a peaceful environment without the hassles of todays social rules.

Paul Rudd ,an upcoming comedy actor ,once again gives a great performance.Hes completely at ease and being a very likeable character its easier for the audience to relate to the movie through him.Unfortunately its not the same with Jennifer Aniston. She gives another rigid performance. The rest of the cast too arent very great either.

Wanderlust had a great concept and a good start but it squanders it away in the second half. The concept of a commune had a lot of potential here, but it isnt fully explored. After a brief introduction to a communes positives, the second half entirely shows a negative aspect.

David Wain tries to present a movie in the same vein as Role Models (his earlier directorial venture) ,but ultimately fails. The second half is filled with cliches and becomes very predictable. Also something that bothered me was the extended scenes of monologues by Paul Rudd(ex: him trying to get confident by ranting out expletives in front of a mirror) .At first it was funny but soon it becomes boring. Many scenes go into the awkward silence moments too often.Comedy is okay ,nothing great.

Overall ,Wanderlust wont be interesting for the majority ,but fans of Paul Rudd should give it a watch.

Anger Management Breaks Records

Charlie Sheen's Anger Management made a "winning" debut. The 2 opening episodes of Charlie Sheen's new TV show broke records and currently has the best ratings for a scripted comedy in cable TV history.
Episode #1 initially broke records with 5.47 million viewers, but Episode #2 bested it with 5.74million.

Critics havnt been too appreciative of the show ,while the audience feels the show has the potential to get better.

Ill be reviewing the show as new episodes drop by.Here are the reviews for Episode 1 & 2.

Episode #2

Cars (2006)

[cheesy and disappointing]

Cars (2006)
IMDB- 7.3
Rotten Tomatoes- 74
RJG Rating- 35

A race car is forced to repair a road in the remote town of Radiator Springs, just days before the final of the Piston Cup.

Starring- Owen Wilson, Paul Newman,Bonnie Hunt
Director- John Lasseter

Cars was Pixar's 7th movie and directed by John Lasseter. This was John's 4th directorial venture ,the previous one being Toy Story 2.

Animation from Pixar once again holds up to its top notch standard.Cars takes place in a fictional universe where everything are vehicles (even bugs are shown as tiny cars with wings). Even though its absurd ,Pixar manages to pull it off.

But animation is the only worthwhile factor about this movie, the rest disappoints.Considering Pixar has made such classics such as the Toy Story series,Monsters,Nemo ,Incredibles ,its hard not to criticize Pixar for making a dull movie like Cars.

Story has nothing new to offer. Its a cliche ride all the way to the end.Other than a particular scene at the end (Lightning McQueen helping out a contestant), the rest of the movie is cheesy and at times unbearable.

Every Pixar movie has a host of excellent characters.Unfortunately Cars has close to none.Lightning ,the main lead ,has no likable factors.Mater ,is one of the most irritating characters ive ever seen.

John Lasseter disappoints with his work.Cars is made exclusively catered for the kids and wont interest older viewers.

On release Cars opened at #1 ,but it failed to get universal praise.Cars did succeed in making huge merchandise sales ,close to a billion dollars worth.

Overall,Cars is cheesy and is unlike the rest of the Pixar movies, give it a miss.

Anger Management [1x02]

Anger Management [1x02] Charlie and the Slumpbuster
TV com Rating- 7.0
RJG Rating- 6.5

Charlie is visited by a woman he dated and dumped years back.

AM settles in a nice groove and the show passes by smoothly. But the laughter is scattered and the show doesnt hold the audiences' attention for too long. But the shows was an improvement over the last one.

Anger Management [1x01]

Anger Management [1x01] Charlie Goes Back to Therapy
TV com Rating-8.0
RJG Rating- 5.5

Charlie Goodson ,an anger management therapist, considers going back to some therapy after temporarily losing his anger.

Anger Management is Charlie Sheen's highly anticipated return to the TV screen after leaving Two & A Half Men last year.

The first episode of AM was not bad,it had the comedy and charisma of Charlie Sheen but it lacked a story.Maybe it was because it was busy introducing the characters, which it did a nice job of.But yet theres a lot of ground to cover up if AM wants to reach the levels of 2 and a half men

Goon (2012)

[a bloody movie]

Goon (2012)
IMDB- 7.0
Rotten Tomatoes- 83
RJG Rating- 90

A bouncer gets to join an ice hockey team as an enforcer.

Starring- Seann William,Jay Baruchel,Alison Pill,Liev Schreiber
Director- Michael Dowse

Goon is based on the real life story of Doug Smith who also co-wrote the book on which the movie is adapted from.

Seann William Scott (more popularly known as Stifler from the American Pie series) plays the lead role.He gives a decent performance and is a likeable character.Jay Baruchel has a short but funny role and he shines in it.Liev Schreiber & Alison Pill too give a good performance.

Story is short and sweet. It paints a full picture about the lead character and manages to keep the audience engaged.

Direction is also good.Goon cant be fully pushed off into the comic genre. It has its moments of drama and romance too and doesnt go slapstick on either. As for the sport scenes ,all are excellent. The climax is thrilling, since the final confrontation had been anticipated from the beginning itself. And the fight doesnt disappoint. The movie is bloody from start to finish,so be prepared for them.As a sports movie it has some good scenes on team spirit and so on.

Overall,Goon is a great movie if you are into sports and bloody fights.
